Ok, Ive been trying to put non Norc hand guards on my wifes Norc AR but Ill be damned if I can get them on, the Magpul MOE guards dropped in no problem on my Stag, Ive tried a few different HG on the Norcs but no go WTF? I thought HG were interchangeable on all AR rifles?

Norseman, what type of handguards are you putting on? I had a lot of difficulty getting the Magpul carbine sized handguards on mine. From my experience, they will not fit as smoothly as you see on youtube videos.

I had to have someone push them in at the top at the same time as I was pushing them up from the bottom. Try that and see if it works. Needless to say, I have not taken them off since...it was way too much of a PITA to get them on in the first place!

Thanks,

Ive tried the skinny type M4 handguards and the aluminum railed Diamond head HG , wanted something smaller diameter for my wifes little asian hands.

either that or I might just put a fore grip on to see how she handles it.

Search is your friend.

This question has been asked and answered dozens of times.

Long story short: You have a Norc, they are not built to any spec but Norc's.

If you want anything built to spec to fit, you will have to dremel, cut and sand it.

Regards.

Two options. File the handguard to make it fit the Norc handguard cap or replace the Norc handguard cap with a mil-spec one.

I'm very curious as to why the handguards are like that. I know a lot of people dismiss it as being that Norinco is crap and not made to any correct spec, etc etc.
But as far as I've seen, that's the one part of the gun that is 'different'.

I've seen the drawings for M4 barrels and the tolerance for the distance between the barrel extension and the gas block shoulder has a +.060" tolerance on that dimension. On one AR barrel I have, this distance is almost right at the +.06" and my handguards practically drop in and have a reasonable amount of movement. On another I have, the dimension is maybe +.01" and you need two people and a team of dogs to get it in place.

Is it at all possible that 'standard north american spec' companies go middle of the road (+.03") and maybe the Norincos are making it as close to the low end as possible which is making it that much harder to get the handguards in?

Not that I'm trying to defend Norinco if they are just plain out of spec but it seems odd that every other part of the gun seems to match up except the handguards.

Can anyone who has a Norc M4 and a NA AR measure the distance between the barrel extension and gas block shoulder and see how much, if any, difference there is?

*added* or is it just the handguard cap that is the issue?

It's the cap that's the issue. I have a Norc 14 1/2" barrel on a Stag upper. I replaced the cap and any Mil-spec hanguard goes on no problem.

So what exactly is different about the cap? If anyone can post a pic of the Norc one vs a 'mil-spec' one that would be super :)

the Norc cap is smaller. It's not hard tp replace just drive out the taper pins, slide the FSB and handguard cap off. assemble in reverse order with Mil-spec cap.

The handguard cap (in my experience) is one of 2 items there's an issue with on the Norc CQA. I've had a Norc fitted with a free float rail, no problem. The multi-piece free float rails work perfectly. The top rail is in spec and works with everything (I've used stuff from Armalite to LaRue). The receiver extension is a comercial diameter and works with Magpul stocks. The safety is the other somewhat oddball part, but given the way the off side lever is attached, it's easy to work around. I have run the Norc lower with a Stag LPK, so that works too.

I just put some Daniel Defense Omega Rails on my AR, and love it! They're actually a thinner profile than the stock handgaurds and work well for my "asian hands", I pretty much hold it, using the vert-grip as a reference point and with the thumb wrapped over the top (just not as extended, was a little uncomfortable)
