Further to a recent post of mine regarding possibly getting rid of my Norinco in order to upgrade, has anyone here frankensteined their Norinco with a different brand upper or lower?
Is it even worth stripping it and adding a NEA lower & DD upper / ? or just a waste of money? I know the rifle is great, however there has to be some sort of line where it is good enough or not. Just like NEA makes a good rifle or they don't?

Upgrade what?
Put a few pieces of 'Brand Name' parts on it to make your ego feel better? Will other treat you differently at the range?

Will women jump at your feet when you put more Magpul crap on it and a battlecomp?
 
Wait until parts wear or break, then upgrade.

Until then, do a camo paint job on it to cover the Norinco logo if it will make you feel better.
 
Why bother with an NEA lower? Just run your Norinco lower and build a spare upper in a different barrel length or caliber. As for compatibility yes Norc lowers work with pretty much every upper I have seen. I had a DD upper that I was building for a project and it fit fine to my Norc lower.

As for the upgrades I put MOE handguards on mine and a robot foot stock to get rid of the slop in the original adjustable stock. I am very happy with my Norc.
 
going from the standard M4 trigger to a nice gisselle or timney, or another good match/2stage trigger is going to do more for you then a differnt upper/lower

a straight barrel is a straight barrel, your asking if its good enough... well what do you think is lacking? are you missing targets? is the gun jamming? what SPECIFIC aspect of performance are you not happy with?

only thing I added to my Norq was MOE grip, which is 100% better then the standard one IMO,

still shoot it with irons too, no accuracy issues out to 300m... range ends there, so not sure past that... damn restricted...

keep in mind, 99% of accuracy issues are shooter related, so pre emptively buying parts to improve performance is usually not the best way to go about it...

spend money on ammo and training if you dont have an experienced shooter to take you under their wing

someone who is a good shot, is a good shot with any gun they pick up...

Ive seen guys at the range curse their 3000+ ar15s or ar10s because they couldnt get them to hit where they wanted...

and no amount of talking convinces them to listen, stop breathing, time between beats, maintain trigger discipline ect ect...

usually I have to shoot some good groups with their rifle before they break through the ego barrier and start making changes...

heck when I was starting out I SWORE i didnt have a flinch... my damn gun just shot low and left, I swore... despite what some more experienced people told me....held me back for a while... trained it out, now Im a better shooter for it

haha... I love my norq, and my NEA, its no secret!

course I also love the S&W, mossburgs, remington and rugers I have

Are you saying you want to change the receivers and keep all the Norq parts? No, I wouldn’t suggest that. You could consider upgrading some parts on the Norq, but stock, grip, trigger, hand guard, all things that could be put on another rifle in the future. Also a complete upper, a complete lower, a complete new build, or any combination are thoughts.
 
If you have serious issues with carting a "Norc" to the range, you could just strip the Norc lower and buy a stripped lower. Then put the Norc parts in the "new, much,much better" lower. It won't change anything, but the average fudd will think you're super tacticool - or a threat to civilization as we know it.
