Norinco Backpacker front sight protruding into bore

I bought a Norinco Backpacker (box labelled JW-83 BACKPACKER) completely expecting to spend an hour or two cleaning up the fit and finish, but I was honestly a bit alarmed to find that the front sight - literally a piece of brass rod that is pressed into a hole in the barrel - protruded maybe 1/16" into the bore! I wasn't thinking and didn't take a picture before I filed it down flush, but let this be a warning if you pick one of these up - have a good look! I don't imagine it would do much good with the shot and wad passing by, let alone if you tried to put a slug through it.

That 10 year old who placed the sight is gonna be in a heap of trouble when the factory hears about this....

Use a file or india stone and carefully trim off the protrusion. It doesn't hurt anything and will probably just shoot off if you leave it.

I noticed this while cleaning up mine last night but I figure it should be shot off/smooth soon enough.

as useless as any sight (or lack of sight) on shortbarrel single shot shotgun, yes.
