Norinco chew wood vs Polytech synthetic

I have a 2007 Norinco M14 with the chew wood stock. Not impressed with the stock. I was looking at the polytech with the black synthetic stock. Are the Polytech stocks much of an upgrade? I know a lot of guys were puting the USGI stocks on the Norincos. Not sure if I want to go that route or not. Is it worth getting the Polytech instead of the norinco?
 
I picked a poly stock off the EE. I had to fiddle with the stock a little, spreading the magwell area & the Marstar 2007 barreled action fit right in.

The poly stock is not great, but it's a great deal better than the OEM stink-wood!!!

There is also the wood stock from Boyds which is nicer than the Chu wood ..it is under $100 too so no problems shipping it...

I just bought the finished walnut stock at boyds for $82 ($111 shipped). i've seen one up close and they are a thing of beauty, and supposedly all the metal from the chiu wood stock fits right in.
 
Just looked at the boyds stock. looks pretty good. I guess that would save my buying a new gun and getting rid of mine. I would imagine the walnut would be nicer than the synthetic poly stock anyway.

$111 shipped isn't bad........will there be any duty at the border on that?
 
Well I did it. I said the hell with buying the Polytech and selling my Norinco. I ordered the Boyds stock $111.80 after shipping. Upgrading my Norinco and keeping it. I think I might look for a nice leather sling for it now too. Any good links to that?

I appreciate the help guys. I think this is a better way to go than the poly.
 
The Boyds stocks are thing of beauty. Very nice wood.

Just note that that they might require just a bit of fitting. My nutmeg laminate required 1-2 mm of cutting with an X-Acto knife near the rear of the receiver. Done in under 5 minutes. The 2007-ish stock hardware fit no problem.

Lastly, these are "National Match" stocks, so they are a bit "chubby" in the grip are compared to the USGI synthetics.
 
I have the synthetic on my Poly and for me it works fine ....I had to file the edges around the hand guard a little to get rid of a few sharp edges .

Another choice is M- 14 Doc,s hunting stock...m14 SA2

Just looked on marstar for a nice appropriate sling. They list Garand leather slings that look like they would be perfect but they don't have any in stock. :(

I think the factory Norinco stocks are the same sort of thing. A bit chubby.

Nice leather sling? If you really have a jones for the 1907 model and leather (or synthetic) is your love, then consider a Turner Saddlery sling for your M14 or M1 Garand.

I google'd them and yes, they ship to Canada. I have a Biothane Turner Saddlery sling on my M1 Garand. It will be the last sling you will buy for your M14 rifle.

My M1 is on top. Both my buddy's M1 and mine are re-stocked with Boyd's walnut stocks. Life is good.

That sling is really nice and would be perfect but is a little more than I want to spend on it. Its $56 plus shipping and whatever fees coming across the boarder.
I appreciate the info though. May look at those in the future for other rifles.
 
I have the Boyd's oiled walnut, UGSI synthetic, Chu-wood, and I had the factory synthetic stock. The USGI and the Boyd's are both equally nice in different ways. The Boyd's stock is simply drop dead gorgeous and a real bargain (fit perfectly to) -- I can't understand how they make any money. The USGI stock is extremely durable and more suitable for field use. I can't get rid of the Chu-wood stock, so there it hangs in shame, and I was happy to give my factory "camo" synthetic stock away! The Boyd's stock is not quite as "thick" as the Chu-wood stock, but slightly thicker than the USGI stock. In fact, I think the Boyd's stock has similar girth as the factory synthetic stock.
 
Nice to hear that the Boyds is a bit thinner than the original stock. I can't wait for it to show up I think it will make a huge difference over the Chu wood stock.
 
I just ordered a finished Boyd’s walnut stock too.
I stained and finished my original chu wood stock and it actually looks really good, but it is soft and will eventually get banged up pretty good.

I figured I’d order a Boyd’s stock now for a spare in case of a future price increase or legislation change makes this stock unavailable to us in Canada.
 
I ordered my stock late in the afternoon on Friday and got notified via e mail on Monday at 10am that it had been shipped already.
