Norinco Chromed Frame

I think of chrome as plating which would have to be stripped off before the steel could be polished in the conventional gunsmithing sense of the word. However, if you want really really shiney guns like the gangsters, I'm sure any wax based polishing compound will bring up the gleam.

AFAIK. Norinco 1911 pistols have nickel plating, not chrome.
The finish of the plating, reflects the surface finish of the steel underneath.
A mat finish plated gun would have to be stripped of plating, all surfaces polished to high finish. Then re-plated.

My Norinco NP-30N is pretty shiny.

The box does say chromium plating
AFAIK???
So do Nickle cases merely reflect the shiny brass underneath?
Sounds weird to me...

I think what he meant was that if the finish on the surface of the plating is matte, so is the finish of the frame underneath (in other words, the degree of shine on top "reflects", or is indicative of, the amount of polishing that lies beneath).

So, polishing the surface plating enough to get it really shiny will most likely remove it entirely, at least in spots. To get a high-polish (i.e. mirror) finish, the plating must first be removed, then the frame underneath polished to a mirror finish. Then it can be re-plated, and the surface will be shiny.
