I was curious about putting on a 7 inch floating quad rail on this gun but i was wondering before i obviously need to remove the front sight post while keeping the gas port and something has to be done with the spring loaded hand guard retainer.. has anyone ever changed the hand guard on one of these rifles? thx for any input

Removing the Norc FSB can be a colossal pain in the ####, some have said it's nigh impossible. It has been done however, and could take a lot of sweat, blood and tears to knock out those taper pins. You'll need some sort of low profile gas block (unless you plan on just chopping the front triangle).

Most free float hand guard kits will come with the barrel nut (that mates to your after market hand guard) to replace the delta ring assembly (barrel snap ring, delta ring, weld spring, barrel nut).

This one isn't a Norc, but you'll have to do the same thing anyways, get those taper pins out. On my Stag and my Colt, they were not exactly easy, but doable. On my Norc, I just ended up cutting the triangle (sorry, no pics).

Once you get the FSB off, the rest is fairly straight forward.

Yank the FSB off, along with the gas tube, use your AR wrench, spin off the delta ring assembly, spin on your after market barrel nut:

Time it so you can get your gas tube lined up, plug your gas block on:

Throw on your muzzle device;

then bolt your hand guard to your barrel nut.

Your7" handguard will expose more of the barrel/

Tons of brands out there, I've tried S&J, Midwest Industries, PWS, but I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

Give it a try, see if you can manage. Make sure you have the right tools. I did my first one with two blocks of wood sandwiching my receiver, but the vice block will make your life easier, a lot easier. It's good to have a decent AR wrench, as well as a very good punch set, and a decent set of wrenches.

A lot of people will borrow these tools from friends, and that's what I did because I didn't think I'd ever take apart more than one AR. I was wrong. I've assembled three ARs, and there are others here far more into the obsession than me.

I bent the $hit out of my vice handle changing a muzzle device.

This happened because I didn't have a proper AR received vice block. Lessons learned, don't mickey mouse it.
