If you're talking the A1 type clone, I'd say 700 MAX. They used to be the only cheap game in town, but I'd MUCH rather have the M4 clone now for a bit more.

is 55gr standard ammo readily available or is this reload territory? Forgive me as I am new to this calibre.
And was this a ####ty gun or is it as good as the new m4's? And does it accept parts for regular AR's?

yes it takes parts from regular AR's, mine is in the wife and gf's under 30 picture thread, page 171.
american eagle is about the cheapest factory 55 grain, but i load my own.
i say its a decent AR, if i could do more than plink at my club with it, id buy something better, but this does me fine IMHO. only mod it really needs is an aftermarket stock, the norchinko one is absolute fugly. i cant compare between the new M4's as i havent handled one myself.

To expand on that, the CQ has metric threads. Regular AR's have imperial.
If you are getting it to just shoot, no problem. I had one that got me into the local service rifle and was a really fun gun, my favorite rifle to shoot.
Getting it to switch everything out on and hang stuff off of, you are probably better to go for the new Norc M4 or a NA AR.
In addition to the barrel twist, you are talking the diff between an A1 fixed carrying handle and an A2 flat top, if that is important to you.

I really have to admit that a chink copy of the AR is better than the chink copy of the SKS to shoot. Mine groups sub 1 MOA at 25 yards - open sights - and about 1 - 1.5 MOA at 100 yards with scope using russian Wolf Ammo. For the $600 I paid - it was worth it an more! If you can find one at a reasonable price get it! Or save up for a regular AR at about twice the price!
