hello guys, want to talk about the norinco cq rifle (ar 15 clone)

you either love it for its price, or hate it for its ''made in china'' label. i have one and mine works great, but im in need of input (or criticism) from owners american made AR15's, and/or norinco owners to see if they have the same problem as me.

there is some looseness between the upper and lower receiver, is that only due to the fact that both are held together only by the 2 pins or is it because of lower tolerances in the design... its my first AR...so i dont know...

the ejection port cover also shows some paint flaking (a common reported problem for norinco cq's), but other than that, the gun works great...its accurate, it has never jammed...and especially its under 800$.
for that kind of money, you might be inclined to tell me you get what you pay for, but for guys like me on a budget, this gun is a must own .

Looseness between upper and lower can occur on any AR. Not a problem (although it does bother me).

I will throw in an interesting occurrence I experienced recently regarding "play" between upper and lower:

I had a loose/wobbly upper (not the lower as other uppers were fine)... I removed the barrel nut which I swear must have been torqued on at 80~100ft/lbs (if not more), once I finally got the damn thing off (I had to improvise and make a huge extension to get more torque on it) I replaced it with a better fitting nut and managed to get the barrel back on at a respectable 40ft/lbs. Guess what, no more play/wobble. In fact it was now very tight. Almost the opposite. Weird I know, but it happened.

I've heard everything requiring tightening on the Norc rifles is done to the extreme, so now I'm now really curious is a Norc owner with loose upper/lower could remove the barrel nut and see if there is a difference in fit :)
If you have the tools, try it. *But don't blame me if you mess things up* ;)

The castle nut that came on my Norc is very loose. I have yet to pin it in place.

There is also some play between the upper and lower. I don't find it an issue.

One reason why I have not yet got an accuwedge is because I take down my Norc for transport to save on length when it's an all restricted night.

Accuwedge cut to your liking will work fine. I don't like mine to tight, so it is impossible to take the lower and upper pin out, but tight enough to take general slope and play out.

i've got one on order so i'm wondering, since you're from quebec, how long did the transfer take and when did you order it and receive it?
thanks in advance.

I own 4 AR's of different vintages and manufacturers. All have similar wobble. Since the sights and barrel are all on the same frame, I don't think it matters. I had a wedge in my Colt for a while.

Ive tried the Accuwedge, and frankly prefer the performance of a regular old ear plug, just cut it down to size (it compresses as you close the upper and lower halves so you may have to try once or twice) and install it like you would the accuwedge. If you loose it while cleaning you dont need to worry about loosing $5 and theyre readily available.

first of; quebec province is NOT the reference for delays when awaiting approval from the government for a restricted firearm... but delays have recently ben cut down from 3 to 6 months (yes , you read it right) to about 30 days.

lets just hope it is a new process that is here to stay.

it took me 3 weeks. to get the norinco... but i was at my third restricted weapon within a year...

Your AR is fine without the Accuwedge - it doesn't need it. A little bit of play is fine. If you think jamming the Accuwedge in and then forcing the upper and lower together is going to make things better, you are incorrect.

funny

I guess the Canadian forces as well as world class gun plumbers and shooters are wrong then

With all due respect, the CF is not exactly known for procurement of high-quality firearms accessories. While I'm sure that individual armourers are very competent, the decision to purchase something like the Accuwedge likely came from the same people who think the Elcan is still state-of-the-art equipment.

Want to know a secret? Most Infantry types modify, or ask a weapons tech to modify, their weapon in two ways:

1) If they're right handed, they ditch the Ambi-Catch

2) Remove accuwedge, place in trash.

A solution to a problem that doesn't exist, imho.

...BUUUUUURN!! so true, i saw a canadian soldier in afganistan climbing a tree to get out of a hole and his 9 mm fell from his holster and into a big merky puddle of water...and the strap was in place!! poor bastards, if the enemy wont get you; your equipment will... remember the green cadpat at the beginning of the afgan mission, the tan colour was backorder!

if the c7 or c8 have the same play as my norinc... it will rattle , not a whole lot, but i guess it will be enough noise to get you noticed if your in the army and you want to sneak up on someone...not that it matters to me; im not in the army. Just wanted to carry the conversation.
