Norinco CQ-A M4 vs. Colt M4 .22lr

Thanks, can you post up some pics of your Norinco with the .22 conversion?

For some reason I really like the Colt version ... maybe it's the Chinese stigma of the Norinco that has me worried

Sure, but there's nothing really to see. Just that the bolt carrier group is a different colour.

Regardless, I'll try to take some pictures today/tonight, since it's range day for me today.

Unless either the rifle or the conversion kit is out of spec which I doubt, there shouldn't be any "fitting" to be done. Although there are reports of conversion kits to be picky on ammo.

If you choose to buy a dedicated .22lr I'd suggest looking at the Smith & Wesson M&P22. The Colt, which is made by Umarex is hard to disassemble and doesn't work in any way like an AR. The S&W gets way better reviews and sits in the same price range.

The Spikes Tactical kit came with a little note saying it was tuned to Federal ammo (whatever tuned means in this context - spring strength maybe)?

I tried it with Federal, and it worked great. I ran some some Winchester Dynapoint through it, and it didn't like them very much at all.

We've had terrible luck with dynapoints in acolt Ar/CCMG kit and in a Kimber1911 22 conversion kit. Federal bulk packs are a bit dirty but function well across the board so I stick with them. I'm still waiting for my Marstar norc AR (but not whining about it on the crybaby thread) so I can't comment on the kit in that rifle but a buddy's old colt AR works well with it.

I have the older CQ and it works great with the Colt .22 conversion kit. You need to stay away from really waxy bullet type .22 as they can give you feed problems. Nice thing is that it takes about 20 seconds to convert over to .22 and the sights are regulated the same to 50 meters so for casual plinking you don't have to change anything.

As far as the CQ goes I bought it about 6 years ago and it has just over 2600 rounds thru it, I keep really good records. Not one failure to extract, had two failure to feed and both of them were my fault in not crimping the case correctly. Yup it is a piece of crap, :D

All over the net!

And I took off my shirt, it's made in Mexico :owned:

Right, because everything on the internet is true.

S&W has acknowledged that some of their rifles had issues that are being adressed, but only a small percentage and not to any degreee that they've recalled anything.

Or did you expect everyone whose rifle is running flawlessly to start a thread about it?

I'm not that naive, I grew up on the internet back when 28.8 was the standard and all that was feasible were message boards.

The key to getting valuable information out of a forum is set aside the whiners who will never be happy and pull out the general consensus on any given thought or product. I help out as best I can on forums and I've always had the same in return, the net is my lifeblood :ar15:

I remember the old 28.8k modem hell I even remember the 14.4k. Back then alot of the time I would turn off imaging on my browser so the pages would load a couple mins faster. I think I first got online about 1995. I frequented message boards alot just like I still do. I think the first online computer I had was a 486 before the pentium was even out.

Spotted this post on CGN today S&W M&P 15-22 Blown Extractor

Ok, pics, finally. Sorry for the delay. 1st pic is what came in the package. Then some picks of the 22lr conversion bolt carrier group, alone and along side the Norinco one. Finally, some pics of the 22lr in the rifle. Last picture, I was trying to hold the bolt open.

Yup, there was some issues with the original rifles. Most folks that got them just sent them in to be fixed. The S&W M&P15-22 is an new AR based 22 platform though, so you have to expect some bugs. I'll be picking mine up this week and will post a review and range report when I get a chance. The M&P isn't as popular up here as in the US, but on the S&W forums there are thousands of satisfied customer.

I can't wait to get mine!

Good luck with whatever you go with as far as a rifle and safe shooting!
