Hi there,

I'm wondering people's opinion on which is the better buy...the Norinco CQ at $700, or the Questar branded AR for $850?

Norinco: http://www.frontierfirearms.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_677_678&products_id=155

Questar AR: https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1735&bc=no

I'm new to the AR platform, and would like to upgrade and MOD it at some point in the future.

Is there another AR available in this rough price range + a few hundred that I should be considering?

Would the Questar one be more reliable, better finished, or a better shooter than the Norinco? I'm a touch concerned about whether or not the Norinco can be upgraded as easily as the non Chinese ARs. Can someone please speak to that?

Thanks for your opinions, experiences, and advice.
Cal.

Frankly, I'd pay the extra $150 for the Questar AR. You're keeping money in Canada, and not rolling the dice with Chinese quality control.

The Questar AR hands down. Only the receiver is a Vulcan and these receivers are getting reasonable reviews stateside. Questar will also substitute a RRA lower for another $99.

In other words, you can have the same gun with no Vulcan parts for $950. DEFINITELY a better gun than the Norinco and not much more money.

Vulcan = sketchy. The Norc is in service with Venezuelan Forces. No contest here.

To be honest that does not really hold any merit at least for me. Just because "someone" uses it does not mean its any good. Venezuala is a third world country is it not? Im not sure to be honest.

What's Canada and the US using, its sure in heck not Norinco.

Im not saying he should not by the Norc, jusy questioning your argument.

And Vulcan is used by "US Special Forces?" Skip the Vulcan lower and I will agree, but the China=junk argument doesn't hold true necessarily. I borrowed a CQ311 and outshot A2s in matches.

:agree:

Or wait for the entry into the AR market from North Eastern Arms...

Not hating on the Norinco's. I have a couple of their pistols and they are a great buy for the money but if you decide on modifying, I wouldn't guarantee an exact fit on all parts. My 2 cents

I dont think the US SOF guys use Vulcan lol...

I have shot a Norinco but I personally would never own one but thats just me.

Thats just my own personal opionion. I do think they are good for the firearm community because it makes AR's a more affordable option. Frankly, the more people who have one the better.

I don't think I could ever recommend a Norinco over anything based on QUALITY, but in this case:

Norinco >>>>> Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne on quality, even ignoring cost.

Questar is an awesome shop and I have placed multiple orders, but I wouldn't touch one of those lowers.

Questar, spend the extra money and don't cheap out on the cheap Chinese crap.

Go for the vulcan!!! Even if it breaks, you can buy a new lower for 150 bucks FFS. I REALLY doubt you will have any problems with the vulcan lower unless you are throwing it off buildings. Norcs are garbage. I am impressed with some of their newer 1911's but their ARs are seriously lacking in fit and finish as far as I have seen. For an extra 150 bucks you are supporting your country and your neighbor and not some sketchy exporter.

Only the lower is vulcan on those guns.

I very much doubt it came down to the rifles.
There is no way in hell I'd outshoot myself using a norinco over an A2 Colt.
