Hello can anyone with experience please help. I want to change the hand guard and need to know if I will need a new barrel nut or any other parts. I am planning a NEA or Daniel D quad rail.

Also I would like a new stock - possibly Magpul. Do I need a milspec stock or commercial to fit my Norinco?

Thank you very much for any feedback!

-- thank you everyone for the response.

One final question. What tools should I add to my collection in order to work on the stock and quad rail?

If you go with a free float Hand guard, yes you will need to change out some parts. Also, you will need an armorers wrench.

As far as the stock is concerned, I think whether you need a commercial or milspec buffer tube depends on the stock itself. I'm not sure what comes with the Norcs

you will need to either cut down your front sight (dremmel tool) or remove it altogether and put a low-pro gas block on. im not certain of the NEA, but i know that both DD and Troy VTAC freefloat rails are good to go. you will need an AR wrench to remove the d-ring and barrel nut, and i would suggest either getting someone experienced to help or spend some time on youtube watching how it's done. as for the stock, you will either need a commercial stock or replace the buffer tube with a mil-spec one.

If you are happy with a Carbine length rail and you go with DD, you don't need to cut anything or have special tools.

Check that, I did use a pair of channel lock pliers (handles) to pull back the delta ring.

If you want to go with a longer hand guard, either cut down the FSB or remove it and put on a low profile one as previously stated.

oh yeah...i totally forgot it was a 2 piece...thats the way i would go...just need to pull back the d-ring, pop out the old handguards and throw on the DD...a couple of screws and your shooting..

I used a Midway FF rail - just had to cut off the Delta Ring, spring and clip and assemble the rail per the insructions. Highly recomended, easy to install, very solid and not excessively heavy. Also no need to cut the front sight and gives you a continuous top rail.

yeah get something like enefgee said, shorter rail, easier to put on, my buddy got one like it and hes very new to ARs after watching some youtube, he had no problem with a rail like the one above, buttstock and so forth.

do you find the front sight a bit annoying poking up from the bottom of the scope like that?

I was thinking of replacing the front sight post with an ARMS popup like this one: GP Tactical link
