good morning all, i'm thinking on looking for a cq 311. i wan't to do a retro m16 a1 or early a2. besides hearing it's not a colt or its chinese crap save up for a stag ect. can any one tell me what i can change on the rifle? what i want to change to retro is a 3 pronged flash suppresor, pistol grip, no trap door butt and rectangle hand gaurds. will i run into any problems? also will the m7 bayonet fit the bayonet lug? any other parts that can be easily replaced with gi? or anything i need to conserne myself with. it's only accurate with 55 grn rounds (nothing higher?)? lastly what is a average or a normal selling price if i do find one? thank you all in advance for your time and trouble. i greatly appreciate it. king66

p.s. if any one might no of one or no of a better quality retro style upper please let me no.
 
This is one CQ 311 with AR 6 position Buttstock, pistol grip and Yankee Hill free float handguard.

I try a AR upper and fit but I don't fire for try it I can't say if work perfectly with CQ lower.

 
I've tried two different uppers on the CQ311, and the fit is nice and tight.

The flash hider screws off (I think the threading on this is of 'metric' type, I can check tonight)
Pistol grip comes off with a simple screwdriver, fits all AR grips
AR-compatible stocks require a little adapter from FabSports (or you can mash the stock in with a vice, mallet, and patience)
Handguards are a pain to peel off, they're the original unangled type that you CANNOT do with your bare hands, so have a friend and a screwdriver or two for levering it out
I've only tried one older bayonet on it, but it fit just fine (don't recall model)

What other parts can you change? Well any 'milstd' upper will fit just fine on the CQ311 lower, so the only thing you really must be wary of is the threading on the stock.

Leverarms used to carry the CQ311's for $500, but it's unlikely you'll find any at that price (I shoulda bought two :()
 
i saw the one from fab sports (got a hard on right off, then disapointment), i need or rather want one stock no fu3k off kit. is the hand gaurd longer then a traditional m16/c7? by the picture fab sports has up, it looks like its longer, or is it the just the custom gaurd? btw you guys are great for helping. i haven't touched a 16 or simular since 92. long time to remember stuff. thank all again. regards, king66

You can put standard hand guard & pistol grip . the butt stock tube is metric thread .But there are adapters if you want to thread on a different butt stock

you say the butt stock is metric and i'll need a adapter? is that needed if i just want to change to regular butt , not a adjustable?

It's a AR15 Customizable Free Float Handguard (YHM-9432A, Rifle Length Handguard, 12.5"). Only need threading the barrel nut.

Look longer on the picture.

thanks i relized it after the fact. please appreciate i only have used m16 a1's and the first generation c7's.

If you just want to change the regular buttstock their is no issue since the buffer tube isn't removed.

He doesn't need to remove the buffer tube. He wants to remove the ugly fixed buttstock that's on it and install a fixed surplus M16 buttstock. All that's required is to remove the top rear screw, slide of the buttstock, put on new one, re-install screw, that's it.

If he wanted to go with a newer A2 buttstock than he'd need to add a spacer in the butt and he'd need a longer screw.

I have a CQ-311 and use it with the upper it came with and one that I built.

I built a flat top upper with a 16" barrel and it works just fine on the CQ lower. I have never had a problem and accuracy is good with either upper.

I have the Ceiner 22lr conversion kit and use it in both uppers as well.

My CQ has a rock river arms stock, Hogue grip, and non-norinco furniture.

The only issue I have had is the bolt and bolt carriers are not interchangable between the uppers, so I have 2 even though I can only really use one at a time.
