Norinco cq556 vs 'merican AR's upper rail question.

I have seen people with new sights on their nork's.

the rail is probably out of spec...maybe take a file to it carefully? That is provided the rail isnt warped. Did they copy a 1913 rail or a Weaver type?

No it is too small if anything. Filing will make it worse.

I'm curious... I'm going to take my AD scope mount and carry handle and try it out on my uncles norc.

Everything I've put on the top rail has worked perfectly including an Armalite scope mount - what model of sight is it?

1) Will it fit on the front end of the rail (ie: is the rail the same from front to back)

2) is the screw bottoming out before the clamp part of the sight is tight has the screw been replaced with a different one? or has the screw been installed on the wrong side (I've seen that make a difference)

Nope wont fit on any slot in the rail. The screw cant go in backwards on these sites.

just an idea... i'm not sure if it is a good idea...

get a piece of brass (and old case) hammer it flat and fold it and put it on one side of the rail as a spacer. The brass should be strong enough to keep a flip up accurate, yet soft enough not to scratch the gun..

Yeah I hate to say it but I'd sooner believe that there was something wrong with the MI sight than the Norc rail.

Have you tried any other picatinny stuff on your top rail? Scope rings, or mounts for example.

I have nothing else to try


the site carry handle it came with works fine.

Yeah, Norinco product looks like s**t finish-wise, but it's usually "nothing wrong with the bloody thing!!!" mechanically. I've never bought/owned MI, but what I've read from purchasers hasn't been great.

Edit: Maybe take some calipers to the rail before you order new sights though? Nothing's ever for sure...
