Norinco designation: M-14S or M305 ?

I still don't get it...

I got this "like new" M-14S/M305 from someone who bought it new in Sept.
It's serial # is 0060xx, so it would seem to have been manufactured in 2000, am i right ?

So why is Norinco website and every GunNutz here refer to this rifle as the M305 (the chinese website says the M305 is an upgraded version of the M-14S ... :confused: ), while mine is (edit: it's stamped M14) registered as an "M-14S". Even the original cardboard box was marked M-14S.

Is there really "M305" stamped on some newer rifles ? like those made after year 2000 ?
If so is there any mechanical differences between the y2k or older M-14S and the "newer" M305 ?

Probably a copyright or comercial name to make it seem less evil, the chinese are know to operate ethically:rolleyes:

There is no difference between m305 and M14s; mine is actually stamped just plain "M14" on the receiver. I don't think any rifles are stamped M305
 
It is an M14 and it has one of the best M14 receivers ever made, or so those in the know say. Call it whatever but its still an M14.

it's actually stamped:

But like I said, the cardboard box in which it came from Norinco was labeled M-14S and it's also M-14S on the model description in it's registration certificate.

But there are M305-stamped Norinco M fourteens !

So Norinco as "produced" two distinct models (M14S and M305), with two different descriptions on their website:
M14S "It’s automatic rifle and can be used as a hunting rifle, ..."

they also must have gone back to the beginning with the serial numbers or started the m305s et al the latest run of m14 actions- back at 0 or 1- my ser no is higher than yours and it's a 1990's AL with the ground off receiver

well, mine is an old fella and has all the full- auto stuff save the connector rod and the lug,selector et all- the trigger group is a full- auto style- you just need the rest of the bits to turn it-
 
The M14S was an earlier version of the M14 copy,it was a dismal failure with very soft bolts,bad springs and a habit of firing before the round was fully chambered (causeing the rifle to double or go full auto) The M305 is an improved model. My M14S was made by Polytech not Norinco,and went auto almost everytime after I put 500 rounds through it,it wound up in the burn barrel of my gun club.

It must be the Lieberal anti-US sentiments rubbing off. Can't refer to the USGI M14, therefore give it a communist M305 designation :rolleyes: (just kidding of course)

Bull####. There may have been a problem with SOME of these rifles but I've shot at least 2000 rounds through mine without a hitch and it gets about 1 MOA.

I have a USGI bolt for it, but have never felt a need to use it.

In reading this I see that there is a M305 a M14S but is there also a version stamped M14 (no S)? IE - is there really 3 versions or does the m305 also have a "M14" stamped on it?

Only reason is that I am looking to purchase an M14S and do not want to get a M305. Also, the M14S was produced in 2000? and the M305 in 2002 and now whatever Marstar gets - probably 2005?

Just looking for some stamping clarification...
M305 = M305 ???M14???
M14S = M14S
M14 = ??? only M305 or also M14S

There have been a few guys that have rifles marked M14, is that just a double marking on a M305 or does an M14S come stamped M14 and M14S on the box and papers.

all mine has is the ser no and the norinco star-no model designation or anything else- and made in proc- it's even abbreviated proc-
