So it's been a few years since these double barreled shotguns have come out. When they did, the quality was disappointing to say the least. How have they come along? Are they better? Reliable?

Thanks in advance.

Had one for exactly 4 rounds two of which were trap loads (to test function). Not only did the wood split behind the action, but the tab that holds the grip on it was bent enough that it didn't hold together after that. I took it back.

Too bad. Cool concept, mine was poorly executed. I'm curious to see what others say.

Mine certainly isn't pretty (Outlaw, 12" Barrels) but it has never failed to go bang and it still locks up tight after 300-400 rounds. The wood hasn't cracked, both triggers work, both hammers work, hell even the safety works.
I use mine as a truck/canoe/backpacking gun so it doesn't lead a well maintained, easy life.
Barrel regulation is..... unique. I've killed many a grouse and squirrel with it but it is certainly a close range operation. Luckily normally Northern Ontario grouse are exactly as smart as a box of nails.

The trouble with break action shotguns is they require good materials and tight tolerances/a fair bit of fitting (both metal to metal and wood to metal) to function well over a long period. Unfortunately, Norinco does neither of these very well. I've seen ones that have lasted a few hundred rounds, and others, like yours, that have fallen apart almost instantly.

It's not as short, but if someone wants a decent Coach gun that they know will be working after a few hundred rounds, look at the Stoeger offerings.

Tagged for interest, I've got a rain check on one at Crappy Tire for my gal.
She doesn't like my A-5; too many moving parts.
And my 1897 Winny will tear the meat off of the top of her R-hand thumb knuckle and I'll be in Dutch for sure.
I've got to provide a varmit gun for her when I'm away.

There's a running thread in the Corwin-Arms sponsor forum. Martin is going to be bringing in a better quality double barrel shorty from either Armed or Baikal (he isn't saying which, for trade secret reasons).

He's expecting the first prototype within days.

Either manufacturer will far outshine the Norinco. I picked up one of the outlaws at a gun show and handled it for a bit, tested the break action and trigger pull. Everything about it seemed clunky-junky. I have nothing against Norinco, I reall like my DA Grizzly (Dominion Arms is just a sub brand), but that Outlaw just scream "crap, each and every part". And that was at the booth of a sponsor dealer. If that one was the best they could come up with for a demo, I have zero interest in it.

I'll hold off and see what Martin at Corwin-Arms ends up bringing in. It will probably cost $100 or so more, but be entirely worth it.

I had one, fired both barrels at once with 2 3\4 buck and a big peice of wood broke off the stock just behind the receiver, i didn't really like the rest of the quality if it anyways so dealer took it back. I will buy one of the ones corwin is bringing in for sure.

They looks so cool (the double barrel 12" bbl) but I think its much better to buy a Stoger Coach Gun 20" bbl SxS for an extra $100 or 2 , youll get quality and reliability. The silver Stoeger double barrel 20" coach gun is pretty ###....especially the "Special Deluxe" model....stainless receiver, blued barrel, and georgous laminated walnut stock...$599 well worth it.

I've got one, so does my buddy (bought one after playing er trying mine). We've put almost nothing but federal 00 buck through them, and they've been great. Hammers work, wood didn't split, triggers seem to work. I don't think I'd trust it more than a mossberg when the world comes to an end and I have to drive my V8 interceptor around the wasteland looking for fuel, but for blowing away plastic duckies at the range... nothing better. :)

($300 for a mossberg vs $300 for a shorty coach gun, I say BUY BOTH!) ;)

When I got mine, I did shoot low brass shells through them, and they tended to jam up the gun a bit, but high brass works fine.

And you can legally fit them into your briefcase.

I looked at the Stoeger products and really liked them. Couldn't get over the prices though. As mentioned by another, the ARMED offerings in my opinion are a much better value. If one shows up in a double, I might have to spring on that. Have always wanted one...

I've put about 300 or 400 rounds of buckshot through mine and some trap loads as well. I have fired off both barrels many times and the soldering holding the barrels together has started splitting. I've soldered them back together but don't fire both rounds off at the same time anymore. For the price I'm happy, haven't had any wood splitting yet.

I am tired of hearing guys say theirs fell apart after 4 shots.
I've said it before, and here I am again. Norinco did a total fail on these guns by not doing any Quality checks before shipping.
On my gun (JW-2000, same thing but sold elsewhere, it has a checkered stock btw, Dominion Arms are not), screws were in finger tight at best, all over the gun. I took mine apart, did a trigger job (thanks, youtube), and retightened every screw and nut on the gun with locktite. I also made a little spacer to fill the fore end to action gap, and glued a piece of leather under the barrels so it sits tight on the fore end. SInce that time, about 3 years ago, it has never failed since and is still my favorite gun. I have no idea how many rounds, but it has handled slugs, buckshot and birdshot. I never pull both triggers at once. Both barrels shoot approximately to the same point of aim.
It is not for sale, btw. If I didn't have one, I'd buy another. I am waiting to see what corwin-arms comes up with in an over under.
If you like to tinker, these guns can be made to work very well. If you want it to work out of the box, prepare for disappointment.

X2 on everything said here. That's everything I did to my outlaw. But please, tell me more about this over under!!?

I agree.
Why not get something designed to shoot and hit targets.
