Hey gang, pretty new to the forum and was curious if any of you have any info on the Norinco brand. I understand that most shooters are very brand loyal and some have considerable amounts invested in their pistols....that being said, I am looking to get a 9mm and due to budgetary constraints am looking to get the best accuracy/quality for the $500 I have to spend. Been looking hard at the Norinco 1911 9mm, or the Np58 9mm.
Please let me know if these are descent quality, and if you have any suggestions of other options (Please no glock posts, I have shot one and it felt like I was holding a 2x4) I'm interested to hear them.

Thanks in advance gang!

Ill say the Norinco 1911 9mm. Cheap to shoot, not the most accurate with its loose barrel bushing but has potential to shoot well. Took some work to smooth it out.
The Ruger SR9 is worth looking into as well, nice grip and reasonably priced at 500-520 dollars....

Many out there work quite well, including ones that are based off of very tried and true designs like the P22x Sig Sauer clones, and the CZ75 clone, also the 1911A1 clone. The downside is that the fit & finish may not be as good as the real deal but you're paying a fraction of the cost, and from what you're paying you seem to get a very good product.
The ugly is that there usually is no warranty unless maybe specified by a dealer. Even then, it's dependent on if the dealer has spare parts, and I don't think it's more than a year. Most of them seem to run well out of the box, but if something was seriously out of spec and say (literally) blew up in your face, I don't think China will be too concerned about the liability of that. The aforementioned clones seem to work well, but some models including the 780 shotgun, M14 (headspacing issues) and Ithaca shotgun clones have been known to be outright dangerous.

A Norinco 1911 9mm is a good gun. Decent fit, finish, trigger pull and accuracy.
For a little over 600 bucks, you could get a Jericho 941 or a CZ 75.

I looked at the Jericho, and its a beauty. Was concerned about the availability of parts/accessories. As for a cz...i'd love one but they are a bit outta my price range. Also looked at the turkish Girsan 16 (Beretta 92f knock off), seems pretty solid.

Its gonna be my second pistol, and jumping from a .22 to a .45 seems like a pretty big jump (reply to one of the posts)

Like I said in the original post, wont buy a gock they feel like crap in my hands.....would love an m&p, but finding one that isnt beat to hell for $500 or under is gonna be a pretty tough gig.

If we aren't allowed to mention Glock, then there should be a moratorium on saying it feels like holding a 2x4. I hate hyperbole with a passion, and that phrase is way over-used. But welcome to the forum.

It's very, very hard to beat an M&P to hell (I've been trying for 5 years - nearly 40,000 rounds), if you find one for under $500 buy it. The wear parts are easy to get, easy to replace and cheap. You can rebuild an M&P's major wear components (other than the barrel of course) for less than $100, and you can do it at the kitchen table. I should note that in all the time I've been shooting an M&P, I've never had to replace a single part.

Increase your budget slightly higher than $500 and you could swing a girsan yavuz 16, Ruger SR9, FMK 9mm to name a few. Personally after I snag a Ruger .22 pistol I'm hoping to grab a Girsan.

I have a norinco 1911a1 that's been giving me problems. Jamming up real hard. So much so that is unshootable for the time being. But up until I had issues, I liked it. I liked the trigger pull, sights and overall feel. It was also quite accurate. Right now it's a toss up for me, rebuild it with upgrades that are a pain in the ass to get in Canada, or upgrade to a higher quality gun.

Lol, yes ive held a 2x4 before, im in conctruction. Im heading out tomorrow to take a look at a Ruger sr9, Taurus 24/7 and 809, a Girsan and if I can sqeeze the extra $$$ a M&P 9mm range kit might be the ticket (might be better to ask forgiveness than permission....lol)

Thanks for the input gang

I don't have anything against Norincos, and have a few myself. That being said, I would suggest saving a little longer and getting a nicer gun. You'll spend a lot more money on ammo than the gun in the long run, and it's nice to have a quality gun to shoot it with. On the other hand, if you don't mind tinkering with a Norc to get it the way you like it, as I do, then go for it!

500 to spend... You just can't beat the value of the CanadaAmmo deal on a 1911 pistol & 1000 rounds of 45 for $499...

I got one & I am very happy with the pistol.

Cheers
Jay
