Hello,

This question was propably asked here before already,....
however:
are Colt 1911 grips interchangable with Norinco 1911 grips...
do they fit without gunsmithing?....

Thanks

I am glad to here that the other grips fit since I am looking at purchasing the commander. I would like your comments on the gun.:ar15:

The new Norinco commander is a nice pistol for the money. I'd recommend getting an already tuned on via Armco [dealer on the site here]. ;)

Ask yourself what you really want. Do you want a cheap pistol that works? Or do you really want a free-lunch STI?

Well, There's No Such Thing As A Free Lunch Folks (TNSTAAFLF -Boston).*

Out of the box a bargain, no question. (I hated it.) In my case though, not satisfied with minor issues (like drawing blood - my own blood - with each shooting session), parts needed changing bigtime.

I'm very happy with my Norinco.:bigHug: It would be perfect for CCW...except for the fact that it can never enter the US.
On the other hand, I have now spent enough to have equaled the cost of a new STI Ranger 2 (which also would be perfect for CCW and which can enter the US).
Meanwhile, I still want a Ranger 2 and my 1911A1C resale value is probably less than a new Norinco 1911A1C. :bangHead:

I guess I just won't sell it. (Too late.)*

The latest Norc's come with a beavertail (poorly but effectively) fitted, so the blood ritual isn't an issue anymore. I've replaced the grips with some wood on mine and put in an extended safety, and for now that's going to be it. In the next few months I'm getting the sights done and the trigger set up changed, but that's really just optional stuff. The first thing to do with these things is give them a really good detail clean, there seemed to be grit in every component - even the mag release assembly, so a good cleaning changes quite a few of the characteristics of the pistol. Incidently standard 1911 grip screws work fine (contrary to what you'll see on some US sites) it's the grip screw bushings that are different. Other than that the pistol seems to be quite close to Series 70 spec, with the majority of the difference being that they're made with a higher grade steel than most (5100 tool steel), and the frame is forged. I don't think there's a better way to develope a real understanding of the 1911 pistol than the Norcs, you start out with an affordable, useable pistol and can go from there. Since there are some guns you should simply have and not sell (and the 1911 is one of those), these are a great way to both learn the pistol inside out and have an affordable example to keep.

lol @ Colt grips on a 'rinco. Not saying Norinco is outright crap or anything... but it's just funny even to a non-purist.

Gotta say that the blueing actually looks pretty good. Is that original or re-done?

:agree:

The fitting and filing and study of Kuhnhausen has educated me. So the value of the experience can't be judged in resale value alone.
I'm sure I would have been unwilling to similarly "improve" a new STI.

Finish on that one was original. And that was the previous series of Norc commander. The current series has even a nicer blue finish IMHO. I no longer have that particular Norc. The stocks were only on it for the novelty of the pic, then the Hogue panels went back on... ;)

Besides, those Colt stocks belong on the real thing... :p

The best place to buy 1911 grips is Hogue Auction, they have hundreds of factory seconds, most for under US$20.00. Each pair of grips has a picture of the actual item for sale, I picked up a set for $17.95 and couldn't find a reason why they might be seconds.

Check it out here: w w.hogueauction.com/browse.php?id=95
