bought a 10.5" norinco m4 recently and under the front sight, on the barrel, there is a lug that looks like it could mount another sling. is that what it is? is there any way to remove this?

you can kind of see it in this picture.

thanks in advance!

if you want the sling swivel removed, drill out the rivet/pin holding it in, if you are talking about the forward lug (search bayonet lug) yes it can be removed, obviously it is a solid part of the front sight base, a cutting tool may be needed, i'd use a dremel/rotary tool.

Looks like a side sling mount. You should be able to drive out the roll pin holding it in or you may need to cut it off. I too have to ask, what's the issue with it?

It is a side sling mount and yes it can be removed the pins come out quite easily (well they did with mine) but you do have to fiddle with it a bit to get out from under the front sight base and around the barrel. Took me about 5-10 min to mine off.

perfect, thanks guys, i have no desire for a sling. i tried popping the pins out but they didnt budge, ill try again and then pull out the dremel if i need to.

thanks again everyone
