I am just wondering if anyone else has a problem feeding shells into the magazine tube of their Norinco HP9-1. I am referring to having to forcefully push a shell into the magazine tube instead of just gently sliding it in like it was coated with butter.

I am asking cause I have an HP9-1 that I just recently bought and I found it really hard to load. I asked the seller and he said he had non of the sorts, probably just didn't notice it.

Me being an amateur gunsmith had to figure out the problem and then solve it. I thought it was an issue with a burr in the magazine tube but that was not the case. I then thought it was the bolt carrier having a burr or something on it stopping the feeding ramp from fully pressing down. That was not the case either.

However after farting around with it for a couple hours I compared it to my Rem 870 and noticed that there was a lot more metal around the magazine tube mainly beside the slide and shell stop. There was so much more metal there that it was impeding the shell from going into the tube.

So I busted out the trusty dremel and put on one of those cone bit grinders and took off some metal and kept trying it until it would the shell would go in. After taking off the right amount and then fully assembling the rifle I tried it.

Well what a world of difference now, the shells go in like you are dropping them on the ground. Would be even smoother once it actually gets used and worn down a bit.

seems to me I had the same problem when I first got mine, it did smooth out after the first trip to the range, can't speak about remingtons but in comparison to my defender it is still not that smooth to reload.

Compared to my Remington it is smoother. However I have the stiffer spring from the 2 shell extension.

I don't think any amount of use would of helped, there was just that much metal causing it to be hard to feed.

I've seen the same issue on several Remington 870s as well, (just to take the wind out of the sails of those who would say 'cheap Chinese crap guns' it)
Cheers

For about $500 to $700 less then a US built one.

BTW I never had this issue with my HP9-1.

I have the same thing with my HP9-1. It seems like the shells jam on somtheing unless they are put in perfectly. When I bought the gun the seller said only 4 rounds fired so I chalked it up to things being a little stiff and needing to be worked in a bit.

I have put a couple boxes of shells through it and found that with a little practise I can load the tube. Usually when I first load it I have to put it down on the bench upside down for the first load untill I remember how to set the shells to go in smoothly.

Big hands and the loading cover make for pinched fingers sometimes. It is a PITA, my Ithaca and Mossy don't have cover and are a breeze to load.

Over all, for the cost it is still a great gun.

Take the dremel to it, remove some metal around the magazine tube then try a shell, keep doing that until it doesn't bind anymore. I would have to make sure the shell were pretty much inline with the tube in order for them to go in smoothly. After I modded it they just get pushed in with ease.
