I would like to know if Norinco HP9(14'' barrel) is the same with HP9-1(14'' barrel)? MARSTAR sold HP9-1, and SFRC are selling HP9. If they are not the same, what are the differences? Thanks a lot for your input.

The HP9-1 is also known as the "780" or "homeland security model." They are 2 different shotguns at 2 different price points.

The HP9 is a clone of the Remington 870 with the vast majority of parts being interchangeable. The 780 is not.

...that's the simple answer. :)

and from what ive read the 780 is a cheap piece of crap that tends to break apart if you look at it in a manner it doesnt approve of
Not quite......
Mine is rock solid, and It works in -40c. I can attest to that. I think you either get a lemon or a good one. There are no in-betweens. I got a good one. Its heavy and solid as all get out. I like it. It's sorta my "disposable, don't care what happens to it, wont cry if I get a scratch on it" kinda gun. Everyone needs a "knockaround" gun.

Hi Sgt Rock,
I own one of the 780's and i am currently getting it fixed because the Magazine tube broke off..however the Gun Smith said it was a welding defect easily fixable....but i thought i would ask if you had any other problems with this gun? I found when i first got mine it cycled very rough so i lightly filed the pump rails and that completely fixed the problem...I still hold out hope it will be a decent little gun when i am done.

Sorry your wrong some 780 were registered as hp9. But they are not the same thing

I have an HP9-1 and it's definitely not a 780. It has been 100% reliable and all the parts seem to interchange with an 870, It's also registered as an HP9 not a 780. There definitely is some confusion though.

To my knowledge the HP9 is the 18.5" version I own, and the HP9-1 is the 14" version of the same gun. After some of the posts I've seen regarding the 780 Homeland Security being advertised or even marked as an HP9, I'd say be sure you know what you're buying, and be wary of anything under $250.

Isn't the 780 blued, anyway? Should be easy to tell apart if it is.

You'll know if it is a "Homeland Security Model" It is stamped right on the barrel at least mine is anyway.

Not quite. That is a simple answer...simple and wrong.

That is correct.

Originally, the HP9 had a 5-shot tube and the HP9-1 had a 4-shot tube. This meant that the 5-shot model was not completely compatible with the Remington 870 or the HP9-1. More recently, retailers have been advertising 14" barrel, 4-shot tube shotguns as "Norinco HP-9".

Buyer beware. If it matters to you, confirm barrel length, magazine tube capacity, metal finish, and the particular receiver features before buying.

Apologies. Seems that I was misinformed. Always good to have an opportunity to learn more - apparently my hp9 is in fact an hp9-1 according to these specs.

Thanks for the correction.

What is stamped on the left side of your receiver? Mine (14" bbl., 4-shot) say "HP9-1".

ive got a 14 inch pistol grip hp9 coming my way. the pistol grip was added after being bought but the 14 inch is factory, i dont have it here yet should be here in a few days but i just checked the info from the rcmp registration letter or whatever you call it and it states hp9 as the model, not hp9-1.

They registered a 780 to me as a HP9-1, when I returned it and got a proper HP9-1 they then registered it as a HP9 with 5 shot capacity. I phoned them and they just sent me new registration with HP9-1, 4 shot capacity on it without batting an eye. I then added a +1 just to muddy the waters. I don't think they have a clue!!!! Actually, I know they don't have a clue:D
