Not quite......and from what ive read the 780 is a cheap piece of crap that tends to break apart if you look at it in a manner it doesnt approve of
Not quite......
Mine is rock solid, and It works in -40c. I can attest to that. I think you either get a lemon or a good one. There are no in-betweens. I got a good one. Its heavy and solid as all get out. I like it. It's sorta my "disposable, don't care what happens to it, wont cry if I get a scratch on it" kinda gun. Everyone needs a "knockaround" gun.
The HP9-1 is also known as the "780" or "homeland security model." They are 2 different shotguns at 2 different price points.
The HP9 is a clone of the Remington 870 with the vast majority of parts being interchangeable. The 780 is not.
...that's the simple answer.![]()

To my knowledge the HP9 is the 18.5" version I own, and the HP9-1 is the 14" version of the same gun. After some of the posts I've seen regarding the 780 Homeland Security being advertised or even marked as an HP9, I'd say be sure you know what you're buying, and be wary of anything under $250.
Isn't the 780 blued, anyway? Should be easy to tell apart if it is.
