Norinco JW-103??

I'd love more details on this, and also want to know if this was a reloading mistake or not.

It appeared to be a ruptured case. The problem was the rifle couldn't handle it and blew the gasses into the magazine and detonated a couple more rounds. I will say this, it was one of the scariest, most confusing moments I have ever experianced. The noise was unlike anything I ever heard before and the few moments that went by shortly there after were, in my memory anyways, blurry and had a almost underwater sound. Scary stuff, but he came out ok.

Went gopher shooting with Drew_CarreyAB, Tripalm, Pharaoh2, Myself, and my friend at a very nice location near Champion AB.

Had a great shoot for the most part, but there werent quite as many gophers as we would have liked :D

It was great to spend some time with Tripalm again before he heads back to home in B.C.

The only downer to the day was when Drew Carrey's .223 exploded in his face :(

Werent sure what happened while we were in the field...at that point it looked like a round detonated in the magazine!!

Once we got home I looked at the chamber with a bore light, and I was able to see that there was a partial case inside chamber...so it looks like a case of a weak case...causing case head seperation! The blowback caused another round in the mag to detonate, which blew arpart the magazine, split the stock, and give Drew some nice powder burns on his face!!

One of the scariest things I have ever seen in my life! I really thought that Drew was going to be seriously hurt!! Luckily he suffered only some burns to his face, and a cut on his hand...

So everyone please remember to check your cases, and throw out any that are showing signs of damage, weakness, or you arent sure about!!

:agree:I owned a JW in 7.62x39 put one case full of surplus ammo through it and sold it off Just didn't feel safe behind the firearm Never had a hick-up but the bolt and receiver internals were so crudely finished that I didn't feel safe . Better to spend $750.00-$800.00 on a Bolt action cz in the same cal and they do make one . so take the extra time and save up.

Alright, seems like a .223 is the way to go for me plus some work with reloading (I have no clue where to begin with reloading*)

After all this though, my thought is still trying to get a cheap-man's gun for my girl to have fun at the range without her burning a hole in my wallet.
Surplus 7.62 works out to about 15cents each round. (cheap) yes i know...

So as of this moment, I blame my laziness and my poor-man status for not buying reloading equipments and getting a better .223 bolt rifle.

Thank you all for the inputs, it has put me in new light.
Though if anyone around Chilliwack, B.C. who happens to have a JW-103/105, I wouldn't mind testing it out to see.

If you ever want to know the basics, what I bought to get started to reload .223, and some of the tips and tricks I have picked up so far, PM me anytime. Or, search is your friend.

Holy carp pharaoh2, you were not kidding, and I'm glad to see that guy didn't get a worse injury. I hope he got his money back on that deathtrap rifle.

i fired off about 150 or so rounds today on S&B surplus stuff... the gun went bang everytime... i was getting 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards the first 20 or so rounds... and then i am guessing the scope probably had problems... i was still getting groups but just not where i was aiming... i'm going to re-install the scope make sure everything is tight and try again next weekend... the gun functioned flawlessly... twice i had to push up in the bolt harder to eject the spent round... but nothing major. the magazinen also worked fine...

i took my camera with me... but it was way too cold... i did'nt take even one pic.
