I pretty much know the answer to this because it's a norc', but i was hoping that maybe someone has one and could tell me if you like it and its worth buying as a cheap plinker.

a buddy of mine has one. works just fine, never had a stoppage in all the times we've taken it out- he cleans and maintains it religiously though. only problem is that the safety doesn't work at all.... learn trigger control that way i guess.
only problem with "cheap plinker" is that 308 is pricey and surp stuff is getting harder and harder to find....

methinks you are referring to the M-14s/M-305 from Norinco whereas the arm in question is a .22

Why buy a norinco .22 when there are plenty of good .22 available for around $200.

The 10/22 for $230 and the Rem 597 for $180 (Reliable G&T a site sponser)

Norinco .22s

I own the "take down" model based on the Browning SA 22. It was $170 vs $600 for the real one, but even at that , it was no bargain. I have got it working OK now, but it took some time and effort and new springs, etc. The others who responded are correct - other guns work well out of the box and don't cost that much more.

A decent firearm, especially a .22 will last several lifetimes! Buy one today and your grandkids will shoot it (if the liberals don't get back in). The real cost is for ammo, especially for center-fire guns. Forget Norinco and buy something nice.

I have one ... Lots of people at the range have confused it for an M1 carbine until I started shooting it. I used to have problems with the trigger not resetting every time but a few hundred rounds and lots of CLP seems to have remedied that .... Mine will shoot just as well as those overpriced Rugers, Remingtons or Mossbergs witht he right ammo. Today she is my 2nd "will never sell" gun.

IMO the best plinkers are bolt actions. look around for a quality .22 bolt action, they can be had used for $200.

why? because .22 CBs are the best part of plinking. quieter than an air rifle (from a 24" .22 barrel the loudest sound i hear is the firing pin) and can be used just about anywhere, anytime. itll also handle just about any other .22 ammo - shorts, longs, subsonics, stingers, etc.

i like semis but their finickiness about ammo is a real pain in the ass.
