Starting to think about christmas presents already so does anyone have an idea where I could pick up the norinco mauser clone JW-25A? I've already checked the EE as well as marstar and lever arms but they seem sold out, help tracking one down would be appreciated.

The father in law collects military rifles and has cool stuff like the '1897 trench shotgun and the military style thompson so I think a 22lr mauser would be right up his alley.

If you have any other suggestions let me know as well, but keep in mind we're looking for a budget of $300 as its a group present.

Hope you don't get one of the bunch that got sold by Lever a couple of Xmas's ago...comes to you in a bag of cosmoline with sights that have been installed by very drunk (or very angry) people. It'a project gun to be sure, don't pay too much or expect too much.

As long as it looks the part I am sure he will be happy even if the craftsmenship is off a bit and we can always clean it up for him before wrapping it up. Thanks for the heads up on the messed up rifles though, what was wrong with the sites? banged up metal or installed crooked?

Just got myself one a few days ago, nice rifle, keep looking in the EE they come up from time to time. here is mine...

Great little gun, but a bit heavy, just watch out for the crappy paint finish on it, mine is pretty scratched up. Though it is a good excuse to sand it down give it a nice coat of oil like MT84

Nice guns guys!

This will likely be more of a collector item for him and will likely not see much active duty so as long as the finish is somewhat authentic he should love it. And if not the mother in law in handy with refinishing furniture so I am sure the stock can be made pretty.

If you do refinish it, be prepared to curse like a sailor because even though the slop they put on it chips easily, it does not come out of the wood willingly. Spent many hours soaking and peeling the stuff off. Some nice wood underneath though.
