I was considering getting this rifle as a dual purpuse plinker gun(cheap surplus ammo for lots of shooting - that is a big bonus) and for deer hunting. For those hunting days I could always get some name-brand soft point. I'd be interested to hear people's experience/opinions on this rifle. Thanks.

I was thinking abotu getting one of these for a cheap practice rifle, and then the Stevens 200 came out...

A .223 for $320

and a quality gun, as well. The Norico is hit and miss..

I've got one. The bolt is very rough and the mag is rough inserting and removing. The stock is decent, the adjustable trigger is good and its a fanatstic shooter. It'll shoot ragged holes at 100 and about 1.5" at 200. I've heard some horror stories about quality control, like the barrels diameter being too large so it won't shoot minute of earth. A friend has the stevens. The Norc has nicer stock (I don't like synthetic), much better trigger and is more accurate. The stevens is much smoother and is still reasonably accurate and you don't have to wonder if you'll get a lemon.
Here's 3 shots at 200 with the 105 and 45grn win white box:

I bought the Norinco that Supercub mentioned from him,not a bad little rifle,it did require some owner improvements(bedding, trigger polishing and better scope mounts/bases).I liked the trigger especially, had mine down to 1.49lbs pull.
IMO,I'd go with the Stevens.

Like Gatehouse said, they're hit and miss (103). Super7's is quite accurate, but the action is 'rough', I've heard the local dealer got some back as 'poor shooting' and found out of spec barrels, just a few of them. I don't have a Stevens yet, but I'd choose one in a second. They must be smoother action and higher build/quality control than that particular model Norinco.

Dito what Supercub said. I've had a 105, real rough bolt, decent trigger once adjusted, chamber a bit oversized, but would shoot 1 1/4" at 100 yds with surplus ammo on a calm day. Scope bases were hopelessly cockeyed, took some effort to get a scope onto it. At the time, it was the only cheap game in town, now we have choices. Having owned 2 Savages, I'de put my money on the Stevens. More options if you want to tinker, more consistant build quality.

Life's too short for ugly cars and ugly guns.
