Norinco JW14 Magazine; Help!

Long story short, my Norinco JW14 magazine came in contact with some Ed's Red during a cleaning.
The cheap s**t Communist plastic softened up to rubber texture, I rinsed it and let it dry.
It worked fine for a long time but the last trip out she cracked and is now finished :(

I tried unsuccessfully to modify a Pro Mag 25 rounder as recommended to be possible from a previous thread on here, it didn't work, almost but still no go.

I have also heard rumors that standard Marlin semi auto .22LR work 100%. I don't want to waste more money on this rifle. I love it, it's reliable and way more accurate than it should be for the price, its only weakness being the terrible magazine.

Someone please tell me will this mag work in my rifle?

i took a champion 25 rd mag, as per an article i saw its made for the marlin 795, rounds will jam in the jw 14 unless you modify it, however its easy there is a very small ridge on one side of it, grind it off with a dremel and presto it runs like a top, i found one and did the small mod to it, it works flawlessly the promag for marlin will not work, everything i tried the champion 25 rounder made for the marlin 795 is the only one, here is a link of a guy using one, hope this helps

i should have also added that the marlin mag in the link you listed will NOT work, none of the other original marlin mags will work, there is a ridge type thing on the side and it will pinch the mag too much, thats the nice thing about the champion for marlin 795 you can grind off the ridge on the side and good to go. i have one myself and i agree great deal for the money, mag is the only problem, however not once you find one or some of the champion 25 rd mags, they are cheap as well 22 bucks i think mine was.

False! They CAN work but you need to shave down the sides, just as you would with Champion mags. I have done it with Marlin factory nickel magazines on my formerly owned JW-14.

My original post here. Travis you even posted in that thread! Shaving down the metal magazines took a LOT of patience though.

I know, I tried the promag, I had it working initially but the lip cracked after a couple hundred rounds. $40 with shipping and taxes down the toilet :(

I ordered the nickel one I put in the add.

What did you use to file the ridge down? Patience I have if it means having a rifle I can't even fire.
 
I have a N.I.P. magazine from SFRC if it'll help.

I have also modified a promag25 rd Marlin to work. The stock on my jw-14 needed to be opened up around the mag well to allow the promag to seat. (as well as the mods to the magazine itself)

For kicks, the next time I get my hands on a Squires Bingham model 20 magazine I'm going to try it. The JW-14 is very similar

New JW14 magazine? Would you consider selling it? I'm at zero mags right now for this rifle and it's killing me lol

I used a sharpening stone that we use for our kitchen knives, it took me maybe 4 hours to do the two, and I had pretty painful finger joints by the end of it. Surely it would be better with some kind of powered grinder, like a circular bench sander or something. The important thing is that the shaved faces are flat so you want to use something with a large surface.

My local CT also had spare plastic mags. It's a bit of a toss-up for me. For about the same price, the Marlin mags feel better in the hand, but I was only able to comfortably load 9 rounds in them. 10 rounds fit easily in the plastic Norinco mags, but then...plastic, and you will have the same problem if you spill chemicals on them again.

I ordered a stainless AMrlin and will follow your advice/guidance.

I also will be getting a new plastic one from a board member from this thread :D

ok my bad on the promag, i have 2 promag 25 rd mags, and tried to put them in my jw14 and they were too tight, i didnt want to mess with them though because i have a marlin 795 that the promags work perfect in, my only luck was the champion but great info, good to know about can tire and the promag tip, grinding the metal ones down to have a 10 rounder seems like a pain in the a$$ to me, when you can mod a 25 or get a stock one from can tire
