Hey guys, lots of discussion on this little rifle of late...and I just got mine yesterday. :) I know it's a CZ clone, but I don't own a CZ .22lr and am wondering exactly what magazines I should be shopping for. I think I'd like to stick to 5-rounders, metal if possible. If you have any leads (or a part#) or are a sponsor here who sells them, please chime-in.

Even knowing what model of CZ (452?) these clone exactly would help. Action is very similar to my 452 .17HMR, but obviously...can't use those mags to try.

ADDING THESE PHOTOS!

Hey guys, just thought I'd add some photos to the first post in this thread, as I know I was combing through these forums when I was considering buying one of these. The photos are from yesterday, and this is about how I've spent one day, every week, for months. Love this little rifle!

I believe this is what you're looking for:

or the 10 rounders if you feel like putting some massive .22LR firepower downrange. ;)

Hey guys, "bumping" this thread. Does anyone know of any dealers/stores in Canada that sell steel, 5-round magazines for the CZ 452?

I contacted SakoAlberta, they only have 5-round polymer.

Thanks!

Hey 22guy:

I just bought my first CZ (452) from Epps (Elwood Epps Sporting Goods in Ontario). They had steel and polymer mags in 22lr. before Christmas.

I am hunting for the 22 cal. single shot adapter magazine, but Epps has none. It seems this particular item is in short supply here in Cd.

The CZ USA site has them noted as being on back-order.

The only other source I know of is TJ's County Store, but they only ship to US states or military bases.

Seems there's an opportunity here for an enterprising business or person if they have U.S. contacts!

That would be great. Truth be told, and this might not be a shocker, I find the 10-round mag. to be a bit of a dud. Anyone I asked, CZ and Norinco owners alike, said that these mags would have no problem feeding longs. True, if you don't load more than 4! (reminder, it's a 10-rounder) Don't know if it's the mag follower, but if you try to load 5 or more, it'll chamber the first, but when you close the bolt, the nose of the next round pushes down and sends the rear of the 3rd round up...jamming everything. It did this the first time out, so I took it apart, de-burred everything, polished all contact areas, cleaned-out the cosmoline, and then gave it a light coat of 3in1. It got better, but even loading LR rounds, it did the same to my surprise. I did get a string of 7 rounds that fed properly, but 5 is the best it'll do, on average, with LR.

I never liked mags that protrude beyond the stock, so I'm guessing (hoping) either a CZ 452 mag will feed better (if it works at all..hoping) or at the very least, I'll have a 5-round Norinco and not have the mag hanging-up on my coat every time I sling it for a hike.

Mag issues aside, I must say that I'm having allot of fun plinking with this .22, and don't regret buying it for a moment. If Norinco ever looked down the sights before they boxed them up for the Canadian market, they might have noticed that the front blade is about twice as wide/thick as it ought to be...the sights are almost useless. Took me about 75 rounds to get half-decent with them. Anyhow, guess I'm not as steady as once was with the off-hand shots, so I have a new scope sitting beside me...waiting to be mounted. :)

22LRGUY,

Ugh! That sucks with the 10 rounders and haven't received mine yet. I'll need too look into this problem when I use mine. Hopefully I'll have a solution to make it work with 10 rounds.

I'll be using my 5 rounder most of the time when backpacking or hunting. The 10 rounders are for plinking or just in case I might need some firepower in the woods against marauding rabid squirrels or coyotes.

I had to file my front and rear sight to get a sight picture too.

Thanks for the info. Dale, I just sent them an email. In it, I asked if they might have a Norinco rifle to test the CZ mag fit. (hoping, since you mentioned they sell Norinco mags)

Thanks everyone,
Rob

I recently purchased a 452 Scout from Reliable Gun in Vancouver and sold back to them the single shot adapter. They probably still have it if you called them. John would know about it.

Just got the mag today. Maximum capacity seems to be 9 rounds. I took it apart and noticed a plastic block between the spring and floor plate. Took it out and now holds 10 easily.

As 22lrguys mentioned earlier, the mags will only feed reliably at 7 or 5 rounds. It seems that the compression on the spring is forcing the bullets to stay horizontal and not tipping up to align itself to the chamber. The bullet needs to tip up in order for this to happen. Maybe adding a bump on the front of the follower in order to tip up the round might do it.

WHEW! I'm not crazy then. :) Pretty sad job on those 10-round mags for sure. Hoping if I can track down a CZ mag...it'll fit, and will fed me my 5!

Can't speak for the 10rd mags, but the norc 5 rd mag I have works perfectly and far better made than the mag for my winchester 490

Yah the Norc 10 rounders are a real P.O.S.! I bought a JW-15TH that came with a 10 rounder. Exactly the same problem you guys described. When my shooting and hunting buddy saw it, he proclaimed it must of been extruded. I agree. :( Was your front sight at least straight? Mine wasn't! It was cocked about 10 degrees. I don't know how it hits the target at 50m, but it does. The top of the blade was also canted, and I had to work the magazine well so I could seat a magazine. I'm not disappointed with what I got because I didn't expect much. Hey, it is a Norc.

It sounds like they just reused the front sight on the backpacker rifle. That would explain why it's too wide. I also have a CZ452 and yes the mags are interchangable. In fact, I use the 5 round CZ452 mag in my JW-15, as the Norc 10 rounder is virtually unusable. Reliable Gun has metal 5 round CZ452 mags in stock as of last month. I believe they were $35 each. Their banner is top and center of the page.

Hey BCP~thanks for the input. I just sent an email off to Reliable, fingers are crossed! I was most keen on getting a confirmation that the mag will fit, as a pair of actual CZ mags (+ shipping) will cost me half of what the rifle did. :)

One needs mags that work though, and I'd be tempted to make the Norinco 10-rounder into a PEZ dispenser. :D

Your welcome. What are fellow Gunnutters for? :) Let me know how the PEZ dispenser turns out. I may have a use for that Norc 10 rounder yet! :D

I would not part with the single shot adaptor that came with my 452 Scout for love nor money. I have several 5 and 10 round magazines for the carbine but when they run dry, from the bench I can single load the rifle faster than others can reload and fire magazines.

Update~got a beautiful pair of 5-round CZ mags from Herman at Reliable Gun and YES, they do fit. :):):) and a :) lol

Now, I've yet to shoot the Norinco with the CZ mags, but I have no doubts they'll feed the Norinco with no issues.

Reliable's service/communication was first-rate too, BTW.
