No I don't mean a true precision rig, but very accurate? It's a possibility

I know some of you guys love these too, Since you hardly see them come up in the EE.
I've had this one for 10 years or so, Bought from the now extinct Badger arms for $160 I believe. Its seen its share of use on gophers and partridge, But I never considered it accurate.
Its been sitting idle in the safe for about 6 years, But recently became interested in the precision rimfire side of things.(picking up an MTR) I figured hey why not see what we can do with this little guy.
Its been messed around with for sure, Its currently sporting its 3rd stock, 2nd was a thumbhole stock of a regular jw15, But my finger can barely reach the trigger, so decided it had to go.
Picked up a CZ 452 stock off the EE, and to my surprise the are not just a drop in, took about 1.5 hours with the dremel to make everything fit pretty.

I took it out to sight in the other day, and after a real quick attempt at a zero, I ran into a badger, 2 rounds of CCI SV and he was down.

Took it out to the range with a few different brands of ammo the other day, Wanted to see what I could do at 50 yards. But the benches were a little too full so I had to resort to the 25 yard.
Fired 2 10 shot groups with CCI SV and the grouping were terrible! My suspicions seemed to be right about the accuracy of this rifle, switched to CCI mini mags and fired a 10 shot group and to my surprise it was actually pretty good!(I Know its only 25 yards)

Decided I would try another type of standard velocity ammo to see if the groups opened back up. So shot a 5 round group of Eley Action. and was blown away!
By this time the range was getting even busier and my hands even colder. so decided to call it a day.

The rifle was only sporting a cheap typical 3-9x40 Bushnell, Not sure it would have done any good for me at 50 yards anyways since the crosshairs are quite large.

Tonight I ended up putting on a 4.5-18x44 Simmons(still a cheap scope but not looking to spend much of this rig and light years ahead of the Bushnell) and some new rings. Hoping the weather cooperates tomorrow and I can do some further testing with different types of ammo out to 50 yards.

I know the groups here aren't an accurate representation of how you should test groups, There was no cleaning or seasoning of the barrel other than with the CCI SV's.

One surprising thing about this rifle it came with a trigger pull of only 1.5 lbs, I used to find it too light, But now for what I'm going for I liked it, After some tweaking tonight I was able to get it down to a constant .75 lbs pull, A little lighter than I was going for at 1 pound but it'll do!

Here are the different groups. No I didn't measure anything and probably wont until I take it to 50
First is the CCI SV both 10 shot groups looked similar.

Here is the CCI Mini Mag,(10 shot) as you can see a vast improvement

And finally here is the Eley Action (5 shot)

Excited to see what different types of higher end ammo might accomplish. All shots taken with a front support back and rear support pad.

Here is the history of the rifle in photos!

Here was the rifle in 2011 with a fixed 4 power, Badger didn't send me the mag until a month later.

Here it is in 2012 with with the thumbhole stock and another cheapo fixed 4 power

Here it is in 2013 with a 3-9 power and the stock kryloned to tan.

Fast forward to 2021 here it is in its new used CZ 452 stock still sporting a 3-9

Wow! Looks great in the 455 stock. What a handy looking rifle. I had an opportunity to buy one and passed it up. Kicking myself now that I have seen yours. Cheers!

Great work! I picked one of those JW15a's back in 2016 used for $130 from a gas station in Pembroke.

It's honestly one of the few guns I feel like I will keep for the long haul, its just so much fun. Have you done any other work besides the stock? Also I have had serious trouble sourcing magazines for mine but did hear that the CZ ones fit, can you confirm?

I bought one years ago. Thought I would use it a bit and sell yet but it's such a handy rifle and surprisingly accurate that it now has a permanent spot in the safe.

Brenanlfk....I can confirm they take CZ mags. Been using a polymer 10rnder with no issues, but I still prefer the oem 5rnd due to being flush.

Greg0ry....looks great in the CZ stock! What kind of mods are required to get it to fit? You got me thinking......

Looks like a shooter, congrats! As is often the case, treat a .22 to some better ammo...and you might be surprised at how well it shoots. I've had 2 of those rifles, bone stock, and I never found mine to be that accurate. Admittedly, I had low power scopes on them and used them to clear pests from a barn. Wish I still had one, maybe a higher magnification scope and a day testing ammo....hmm.

Anyhow, mine were ultimately used as currency, sold-off to finance something else. Every time I see one (still) I wish I owned one. Love how the OP's looks in that CZ stock too!

Thank you johNTO! I know what I will be ordering this week! Like you said its such a handy and fun rifle, great for new shooters too.

You bet, CZ 452/455/457 mags work in this gun, I have 3 steel 10 rounders 2 poly 5 rounders and 1 steel 5 rounder which I think is the nicest.

I should have took some before and after photos but here it is, As you can see the Norinco and the cz452 have different spots where the barrel lug sits and the forward action screw goes through. So I had to made a new hole through the stock and countersink it wide enough inside the stock for the lug to sit, I went a little big but I was limited on what I could use to get a nice snug fit, and was being impatient. You can see it on the inside of the third photo. Also the trigger guard groove on the CZ stock was not deep enough or long enough for the norinco guard, The norinco was 7 and 5/8" long and the cz only 7 and 1/4" So I had to dremel it out and make it longer and make a new semi circle at the end, When that was done I used the dremel to sand out the groove depth until the trigger guard housing would sit flush with the stock. and then I tightened everting to CZ spec with an inch lb torque screw driver. Hope this helps!

I took a look at my buddy's 455 stock and like you said, "looks very different". I saw the 455 on EE and was tempted but.....
Thanks again!

The JW15 is a clone of the early Brno Model 1.
They have been imported in different iterations by a number of businesses. Quality has varied. Some quite rough, some almost as nice as a Brno.
I recall one of the first ones in the shop over 30 years ago. Metal was nicely done, stock was chu wood with a ho-hum varnish. It was stripped, sanded, stained and a new finish applied. Came up very nicely. At about that time, there was an article about the JW15 in, iirc, Precision Shooting, and how one could be the basis for a custom .22.

Thanks for the info Tiriaq, Always just assumed it was a 452 clone, never had any experience with a brno

I wish you could still get these. Bell still has them listed but has said they stopped carrying them a few years ago.

If you want a fixer upper that can shoot amazingly well AND actually quite well stocked for precision rifle games.

Not a CZ/Bruno..... think more central Europe for its lineage.

Well I can conclude that it is definitely not a precision rig haha. Shot 5 different types of ammo yesterday at 50 yards, all started with 25 fouling Shot, most groups were over an inch, my smallest group being .396" with CCI AR tactical, avg with that ammo was .909". The largest group being 2.766" with federal auto match, the avg of that test was 2.052".
Ammo Tried was SK magazine(1.676" avg) , show no promise so I skipped the rest of the SK line up. Federal automatch(2.052" avg)
cci tactical(.909"),
cci mini mag(1.220" avg),
eley action(1.006" avg) ,
eley sport (1.119" avg)
