Hey everyone, just lookin into getting one of those 22 calibre mauser copys. can anyone tell me how accurate it is, and wheather or not i should buy it. I love the mauser 98k's but my parents wont let a gun in my house that has killed allies. I keep saying to them, its not the gun that killed the allies it was the man behind the gun. but anyways i just want something for plinking around, i have a wicked target competition anshutze 22, and the mauser copy would only be used for fun. So if u have one please give me a quick review, thanks alot

lol, wtf? Okay, but in all seriousness... I have one, its a decent rifle, not great by any means, but it is fun to shoot and is decently accurate. The price is really hard to beat, and heck, the K98 Bayo even mounts properly (though mine seems a bit wobbly). You can find extra 5 rnd mags kicking around from time to time. Honestly, there is better rifles out there for the money, but it is a great novelty gun. Wood is cheap, and has some really "slick" brown paint over top to make it look... more authentic?

Oh, its "real" wood... I think... In all honesty, you'd probably be happy with it as long as you don't expect the world. I'm definatly not unhappy that I picked one up, and heck, who knows 20 years down the road it might be a good conversation piece!

Lever had them for $100 on sale a while back, they are normally closer to the $200 mark there. I wouldn't even buy one for $100. If you do a search, there is a loooong thread on these where members bought several from Lever Arms and lots had major flaws.

With all due respect to Hitzy, some folks on this site purchased them during Level's "blitz", and cleaned up (the rifles, as well as $$$-wise) pretty well. I recall seeing posts of re-finished Norinco's that looked like mini-Mausers, and pretty lovely at that.

I LOVE these guns. As a milsurp and .22 enthusiast, you cannot afford not to own one!

They are a decent shooting gun. The wood is quite good actually.

My biggest gripe is with the sights. I had to shim my rear sight so it stays centred and the front site is very thick and curde. Also, the front site hood does not fit properly in the front site slots so it looks off-kilter when you shoot the rifle.

I comes with a side mount and tip off rings so a scope would help.

I bought one at $99 from Lever, great gun for the money, no complaints except the front site is off a bit, need to adjust it. I bought the 10 round mags with it ($35 for 2).

What scope mount is that and where did you get it? I would like to put one on the one I got from Lever arms as the rear sight does not elevate near enough.

The scopes were sold only with the rifles back when they were imported in Ridgefield, NJ. They can't be had anymore. :(

I bought this rifle off a member of CGN. There might be another one out there.

Sold one of these which came through Bell Distributors. It was of the quality of the rifle in skirsons' photo. That is, much more nicely finished than other Chinese .22 rifles. I assumed at the time that this was because the rifles were being set up to satisfy Navy Arms.
These rifles were somewhat more expensive than the ones Lever was selling off at $100, and would appear to be of substantially better quality. It seems as if inconsistant QC applies to these rifles as well as some of the other Norinco products.

Had one for a while I like it.Supposed to be based on a BRUO action. More accurate than what I can shoot offhanded. I stripped and refinished the stock
with BLO and like the results better than other Norinco that I have had anything to do with.It has a very high bolt throw so scope mounting is a
problem.Tried all kinds of different combinations to finally get one to work.
I probably bought it just for the neat Mauser look but it is decent 22.

well i figure i would write one incase anyone still reads this page, I bought myne the other day second hand. The origional owner had the problem that i have seen alot on the reviews and that was the fact that the gun shot low.
he grinded down the front site slightly and it shoots excellent now. I was shooting shotgun shells on their side at 50 yards with an average of 3 shots a piece. I find it shoots slightly high some shots but that is garenteed the bulk ammo im using. I put 5 remmington bullets through it and they worked much better. From what ive heard on the rest of the pages its a gamble buying them new, but if they go on sale for 99 bucks you cannot go wrong. Besides who doesn't want a mauser 98k in .22:D
