Norinco M-14 run qaulity

Is there any difference in the qaulity of the Norinco M-14's between run's / batches?
I notice a lot of folks on the EE mentioning thiers is a 2007 manufacture. Any difference?

I find that the 2007 manufactured batches usually have the better stock triggers.

I can't say in regards to the overall quality, but it generally accepted that the 2007 batch was the most consistent and perhaps the best.

The rumour is that the next run will have fibreglass stocks but the jury will be out as to how good they will be.

The best part about M14 ownership is building one up :)
 
that all depends on which series it is- i've got an alan lever with the ground off lug that has the headspace of a real m14 - except for the fire control bits, it is a mirror image of the real thing and the bolt hardness is up to spec as well

I believe mine is one of the older models but not the earliest. The trigger was very creapy and heavy until I reworked it from 6lbs to 3 or 3-1/4lbs. Chew wood needed a little sanding in places as well. Gas shimms also placed on this rifle. Only other upgrade so far is a SS spring guide and buffer. Shoots very well for a new $400 rifle.

If I had the time and money I would buy another one and turn it into a match rifle but I all ready have bolt rifles for that. Maybe a SOCOM would be another idea, na.
 
not that it's a contest, but my serial number is UNDER 300- it's one of the blued ones with the lug removed- and the ground off bayonet lug and it has that other "feature " that the really early norcs have, as well as that special hammer
 
I've seen a variety of Norinco rifles at M14 tuning clinics. The mainstream batches seem to have gradually improved in quality. The earliest M14 I've seen had a beautiful deep blued finish, with the Star-Trek Norinco logo on the left wall in place of the telescope base lugs, and a USGI walnut stock. There have been a variety of internal differences on the trigger groups, and there are grind marks on SOME receivers where the full auto lug MIGHT HAVE BEEN. I've seen various combinations of stocks, bayonet lugs (on or off), spongy to marginal back sights, welded (or not) flash eliminators and location of engravings/serial numbers.

In short, the later ones are probably better than earlier ones. We are told by the importers that these rifles have been assembled from parts. There may have been some short production runs to make up for shortages, but supposedly there plants making them any more.
 
There is no such thing as Chinese Quailty control!
Just make sure attend a clinic & to have it checked over by Hungry or 45ACPKING before blasting any factory loads or hand loads for that matter. Mine came with a 5 to 6 over headspace and I have seen some above 13. All in all for the put together 2007 seem to be the preaty damm good bang for the buck!

to quote Hungry "shoot the damn thing as soon as you buy it and your #### will not fall off ". I did and my #### didn't fall off. My headspace came 9 over but still shoots great. Its just the shims we made during the clinic sort of squeezed themselves out and don't work very well so the gas pipe is leaking. I need to get better shims. Other than that, goes bang every time I squeeze the trigger.
 
I have a '2007' batch M14S, trigger is fairly crisp, let off is consistent, bolt slop is very, very low, has a nice 'ring' when I let the bolt slam home.
 
My 2007 shoots amazing. I can hit a milk jug 4 times out 5, with iron sights, at 300 yards. That is 1 and 1/4 MOA...I can do it consistently. I loves my M14!

you can seena 4L milk jug at 300 yards and hit it 4 out of 5 times with iron sights, hot damn.

i think i better get my rubbers on its getting messy
 
I have an '07. The trigger is great, and the only thing wrong is the sloppy rear sight that never clicks and moves around under recoil no matter how much I try to tighten it. One of these days I'll replace it. Mine also has standard park finish, no bayo lug, and welded flash hider. 400 or so rounds of factory ammo through it so far with one failure to eject and no other problems. Not bad for the price.

Also, Harry Blackbeaver on page 1 was referring to the fact that most Norcs are not really a standard production run; but just assembled from receiver/barrel and any number of random parts from various years.
 
My rear sight on my 2007 has very audible and heavy clicks on adjustment. In fact I think it has more 'click' than my Springfield M1 Garand rears.
 
This is yet another Chinese product made for the masses at the lowest possible cost.The Chinese quality line seems to be "just good enough",no matter what the product.Wal-mart and C Tire are full of it.
