I've got a Norc m 305 on order. Naturaly I have visited a good many sites for info and plain old fun. In the process I've found that almost everyone wants to do mods or just pimp it up. My question other then pimping it up is there something inherently bad in just leaving it as issued?

I purchased a U.S G.I glass stock and also refinished my original wood stock - it turned out pretty good so maybe I didn't need to upgrade. O-well, The whole thing w/ G.I glass stock cost me about $500.00 - damn cheap for a .308 automatic battle rifle.

Leave it the way it is. It's fine.

Nothing wrong with it at all, take it out and have fun. There are a few accuracy improvements that can be made very inexpensively which certainly go beyond just pimping it up. Even those aren't needed if you are happy with how it shoots as is.

Once you start personalizing it (which soon becomes "them") it gets addictive. But the best investment is a big heap of ammo and time at the range.

I've had several Norinco M-14's. They have all been stellar performers from the box. No mods done at all. I do have a GI glass stock on one of them which I prefer for hunting.
You'd be amazed how accurate you can get with practice and trigger time.

I've done it all, went from bone basic to $3000+ added and decked out, and back to near stock, with a few tasteful mods. I settled on the ofllowing as the mods I like: National Match sights (only one of mine wears them, stock's just fine, but I like them), USGI stock (all mine wear them), USGI op spring for all, and reparkerizing for vanity's sake (one of my current M14's).

Here's two of mine, one USGI Maple, one USGI fiberglass, front one has NM sights and flash hider, and repark:

Use it as is. The stock can be glass bedded if you wish. If you find that you need modifications to improve performance, go ahead. Setting the rifle up using the accuracy techniques developed for US National Match shooting can enhance accuracy. If you have the money, and want to accessorize it for appearances sake only, well, you'll have company. Probably better to put the money into ammunition and range time.

Naw dude, I bought all those back when they first starting importing the Rinco's in around the late 80's if memory serves. $300 from Century Arms.
I remember going to their warehouse back then in Montreal and seeing crate upon crate of M-14's, AK's, SKS's all new just waiting for buyers

I'm still surprised to see Marstar selling em for $400. Right on Marstar!!

Geez wouldn't want my #### to fall off! I was thinking of replacing the rear sight with a Garand rear sight I have. I was told it would fit and be sturdier than Norinco's. Of couse since I don't have the rifle yet I can't tell if it is.

You want to be very aware of the #### falling off thing. Would be a shame to have that happen to you just because you wouldn't embrace the addiction!

Actually, Dave, your #### just might fall off if you DO buy crack... never know what diseases they carry.

All I ask for you guys is save an M14 for me... just one. I won't be able to afford one until sometime this summer.
