Norinco M-14 worth it?

buy M-14. as said better rifle. i had sks and sold it. now i got m14 and realized that even bigger caliber it still shoots nicer...smoother somehow.. i am small guy 140 lbs and this is a heavy rifle, still i use it for hunting.it is far more accurate. i know a nut that fired it up to 800m with iron sights and hit what he aimed for.
if you still decide on sks or vz later...get vz its good rifle and it looks cool.

Buying guns from China will make you suffer from low self esteem when confronted with real men with real guns made in the U.S.
where i went they laughed at my norinco rifle....but i didnt laugh at them after i kicked their butt on the range. US made stuff is overpriced my friend.

uhm I'm wondering why does everyone keep recommendign buying two? is it to build off two different rigs or exclusively for picking up replacement parts?
Isnt ordering new parts from springfield cheaper?

Because they are a great deal for 399.00.And once you've built one up you'll want to do another. Its like enfieldites, once your bitten by the bug your doomed,DOOMED I say.

Speaking as an "enfield-ite" with M14 tendencies... I agree 100% with the above statement.

Gas shims are needed (for super tight grouping accuracy) to tighten up the gas cylinder assembly as it fits on the shoulder of the barrel. USGI M14's were loose as heck (read: battle rifle tolerances, of course ) and for competition purposes (read: tightening up the front end) the gas cylinders were shimmed to get a consistently tight barrel/gas cylinder assy fit and resulting in tighter groups for accuracy.

Dumb question: have you downloaded and watched the 2004 Abbotsford M14 Clinic found at the top sticky(ies) in this Main Battle Rifle forum, yet? :D

Watch them and come on back with any more questions. Then you can feel free to attend any of the M14 Clinics being hosted in a city near you, that's assuming I'm in Calgary for April / May or possibly Montreal (April / May also).

Cheers,
Barney

OK, I NEVER use gas shims on any of my M-14, because adding the shims involves you in :

A: Cutting the shims into a "C" rather than an "O", SO YOU CAN SLIP THEM ON WITHOUT REMOVING THE FLASHIDER [ welded on in most cases ].
OR,
B: removing the flashider ... which on some of these is definitely NOT trivial
{I prefer the Chopsaw method of removal ... and I then end up with a "SHORTY"}
OR,
C: using a machinest's self striking center punch to stipple metal at the REAR of the gas assembly / front of the barrel shoulder. I also peen the grooves of barrel, to remove all radial play. Just make sure you use a small drill bit to ensure the gas hole in the barrel [ SMALL hole] still lines up inside the hole in the gas assembly [ BIG hole ], otherwise the gas takeoff can be constriceted, and .... YOUR #### MIGHT FALL OFF!!

PS: before you get all bent out of shape over gas assembly shims ...
the majority of the NEW 14s we have seen recently had the gas lock / "8" ring installed BACKWARDS.

Simply reversing the gas lock tightened up many of these rfiles with no other parts or effort needed.

BUT of course, reversing the gas lock brings you back to number B: ... removing that darned flashider.

SO,
what other firearm out there gives you so much bang for the buck ... AND, and excuse to buy a new chopsaw??

Thanks for your perspective, Laz... I don't want anybody's #### to fall off here, so don't get bent up in a knot if you don't shim yer gas cylinder assy.

Actually, truth be told, Norinco M14's come with purty tight gas cylinder assemblies right from the Kommunist Factory (I mean high school shop class :D ) LOL LOL

Cheers,
Barney

I've got one on order at the local gun store, and I've got a quick question.

If my #### is going to fall off because I only bought one, will it affect my accuracy while target shooting?:D

Man, I can't wait for it to arrive.:sniper:
