I'm looking at getting a pistol soon, and I really like the look of the norc commander(and their price tag). Any one have any input on these? Is their rep the same as the regular norc 1911's? They take the regular norc 1911 mags correct? Any help would be appreciated.

I just got one from Gunnar at armco and it's great. This thing is more
accurate than my 9mm, for the money you can't buy a better gun.

My "new" style Norinco Commander is great, a very accurate gun and even Slavex remarked that the trigger was good (coming from a non-1911 guy). It was a little cranky at first, partly due to using SWC reloads and minus 4 at the range, took it yesterday to PSA and it worked much better on the SWC's but it still prefers RN's. Will try to do up a proper range report.

Hey man. I think we met at the gunshow.

From what I know about you, I'd say if your finances are tight, wait.
If that's what would hold you back from getting the Armco upgraded norc, I'd wait.

Everyone raves about how great they are. The trigger, the grips...it's like a completely different gun.

It's a bit more money, but you get so much more gun.

I have the old style 1911C.

I like it, shot good out of the box, shoots great with a few upgrades. The only thing I hated about it was the grips, which I think they have changed on the new model.

Also the norc mags work o.k. with some types of ammo. Some types, like truncated points would fail to feed the last round. Do yourself a favour and buy some decent quality mags. I use kimber mags in mine and it hasn't failed me yet.

It is strange to hear complaint about the factory plastic grip on a 1911.

I had had several pairs of wooden grips even before I bought my first 1911. Changing the grips on a 1911 is as easy as putting a sticker on the back of your car.

Mine had the crappy wrap around rubber grips stock. I ditched them for some hogue finger grooves and never looked back.

It's weird that the colt mags wouldn't work. I've tried wilson and kimber mags in mine and they both work good.

The Armco tuned Commander is worth the extra cost. Fit and finish of the gun itself is bounds ahead of past Norinco products, even the grips are great for me, and the mags have functioned flawlessly without a single hic-up with any ammo type. One thing that I feel is mandatory to change would be the sights. I chose not to change the sights when I ordered the gun since I figured they'd be just fine for shooting paper, and I regret that desicion everytime I go shooting. Get some good sights for the gun, it makes shooting much more enjoyable.

who doesn't use aftermarket grips..
on any gun

seriously. come on.

"i don't like the grips they come with" is a really boring comment,..
no one likes factory grips. ever.

Actually from what I've heard the new grips coming over from China are pretty decent. And other than the norc I've never really seen the need to replace any other grips.

So what if it's a boring statement. It was the only downside I could think of to my otherwise excellent gun.
