Norinco M-305 Question??

My first hunting rifle was a full length 303 hard wood nose to tail that was heavy, my Norc with gi fiberglass stock is not bad for weight, the 20 Mag clip is a bit of a pain in the tight brush, catches a bit

for those who have excessive headspace with their chinese bolts.... and want a true .308 chamber, source a good condition usgi bolt..... though not cheap..... worth it if you intend to get a lot of use from your rifle.

you just wait till you have to change mags with the 5 in there- at least the 20 gives you something to grab on to- the typical load-out was 4 20 round mags, and 1 in the gun, with 2 canteens and a buttpack, all in canvas- i still have the full rig , and it's not all that heavy to move- the 5 round now suppied is what we used to call the"parade" mag,and was mainly used so you didn't snag during drill- stupidest invention yet, but i have 4 of them because of the hunting regs- not every c/o is going to beleive that big mag holds only 5

Is there any reason why a Winchester USGI bolt is any less desirable than a TRW?

In practice, there is usually nothing less desirable...

TRWs are usually machined to the larger edges of tolerances which gives one more room to work with. SA and Winchester bolts are fine. H & R had a bad batch at one point but all are USGI...

The M14 gurus can give you all the exact details. Hungry, Different, GGFB, Lazerus, etc etc...

TRW made for a longer run and are more "abundant"

That 5 rounder is a sob when your hands are cold. Not enough to grab onto to remove it, and poor leverage for inserting it.

A little practice at home is what you need. Your hand has to know
where to apply the pressure, where to grap and pull. With practice
you'll "feel" the mag. Practice with your eyes closed.

like i said, stupidest invention yet- not all trigger assemblies are that loose- a simple release and grab in some cases won't do it- i've seen ISSUED m14's ( not the 305's) where the judicious use of a SCREWDRIVER had to be employed- lucky these were the us gov't's and not privately owned- besides, the 20 rounder mag also protects the mag release button, something the 5 rounder does not-
