Folks,

I've been looking for some info/opinions/feedback on this pistol as I'm looking at one for thrashing around in the bush (Ontario Wilderness HG Permit). I have a number of others including a couple of original Colt Woodsman models, however I like the 4.5" barrel and overall compactness of this model, and am attracted to the price as I would not be so worried about scratches, nicks, rust, etc.

Am I likely to find any surprises? Do mags from 1st Gen Woodsman fit and function?

Buhler? Anyone ?

thanks,

blake

Lots of posts on the M-93, try a search and you'll get a bunch of opinions. Lots of guys here are satisfied with their M93's.

I have one which is a POS and fails to #### the hammer once every 3 shots.

If I could do it over again I would get a Ruger pistol.

I did a search and it came back with everything Norinco EXCEPT the M-93.

My google-fu is weak...

It's OK and cheap, but in terms of something to carry around in a quasi-work situation I'd go upmarket a bit and get a Ruger .22. I find my Nork Woodsman to be finicky with ammo, lots of edges, slide release on the right...just annoying in minor ways. But well worth the $75 I paid for it :)

I do have several Ruger's, but with 6 7/8" barrel they are BIG for a .22...

Anyone try replacing all the Norc springs with a set 1st Gen Woodsman springs from Wolff to see if that sorts things out???

Mudgunner 49**save your money, buy a decent used gun**

The Norinco m-93 is not a recommended best buy. Accuracy is poor to fair, the trigger grinds like sand paper, sights are adjustable for windage only, quality of the workmanship is fair to poor at best. You'll get what you paid for. A poor chineze copy of a US product.

Get a used Ruger, Browning or S&W. I know the low price of Norinco makes it a tempting to buy. But if you can afford, spend a few more dollars and buy a quailty built firearms. Remember the Russian Lada cars? Norinco is the Lada of firearms.

i haven't had any problems with my M-93. I can pull the trigger as fast as i can and it goes bang everytime. In my opinion it's worth the 150 i paid for it.

Got my new-to-me M93 last week. When I thumbed down the follower of one magazine, it broke in half and it and the mag spring shot across the room.

I was also struck by the poor maching quality as it compares to their 1911 offerings. Deep serations marks were left on the backstap. I *might* be able to lessen them with careful dremeling and re-finishing. I havent shot it yet and have been told that it's 100% functional; however, as others have said, should you need it to put food on your table in an emergency situation, I would go for something else like a S&W wheelgun....

Thanks guys. I have several S&W revolvers in .22 as well as a number of Ruger autos, a Browning Buckmark and 2 Colt Woodsman Match Targets. The thinking behind this whole line of questioning was to find something smaller and lighter that I was not worried about marking up or damaging. I guess I'll just keep looking for a High Standard Model B with a 4.5" barrel...:(

I just picked up a Ruger P-85. I think it would be a great bush gun. DA leaves one in the pipe and keeps you safe, it's a relativly small gun, it's not NEARLY as heavy as some folks would have you believe, accurate enough for what you are needing it for, and can be had for under $350.

For that price who cares if you scratch it. (Actually I found it hard to scratch)

AND there are thigh holsters out there for it to use in the bush..

I love the ugly little thing!

Mine has been a great little gun, put 5,000 rds through it with barely a burp. It’s have a few feed issues right now, but I suspect that’s because I let someone else load the mag which has finicky little tangs on it, don’t get much chance to use since they close PSA. As far as I am concerned this gun has paid for itself as it cost as much as a case of 9mm.

Dude... the P85 is not a .22 (and I've never handled/shot one that really felt good anyhow - YMMV). If I wanted to carry a 9 I'd take the G19 or one of my Brownings...

Thigh holsters are for mall ninja's, posers and the very few who actually require one to get the pistol down below the bottom edge of the body armour. The only way to carry one concealed (required per regs with the WHGP) is to wear a duster or full-length oilskin coat. While this is great for keeping the blackflies off, it is hotter than the hinges of... you get the idea;) ;) ;)

Well... having said that, I do have a 6004 for my Browning for when I do have to wear a Tacvest and body armour...

Best Buy: Sportsman Norinco .22

So I've read more grief than praise on this little guy.
I'd have to say the $100 I spent on my M-93 is best money I ever spent besides, what model could you get for twice that? I almost bought a second one (obviously didn't need it) because I liked mine soooo much!

Mine was well used with 2 mags and had about 1000-1500 rnds through it.
The finish is fine for a cheap .22 and I've had a couple light strikes but that's it. Chambers every time and is decently accurate for the length and type of barrel (sport, thin). I've got and had more expensive guns both rifle and pistol and can't get over this little fellow in my collection.

As far as a cheap .22 pistol, I give it 2 thumbs up.

PS I'd suggest lapping in the slide and touching up the top corner of the hammer. I found that made a world of difference in the smoothness of the action!!! PM me for more details if you'd like.
