Norinco M1 carbine, is it possible?

I would love to have an M1 carbine in 7.62 x 54R

OK...Seriously?!? An M1 carbine in 7.62X54R. Do you even know what rifle you are talking about?

I am with John on this one folks. Either you know what you are talking about and make an intelligent and useful contribution or don't say anything at all.

That's like saying I would love a Walther PPK in .50 AE.

Jesus. Read a book!

you people don't get it.
7.62x25tt surplus ammo. no reloading
19" barrel nonrestricted
crome lined, less worry over corrosive ammo
and for those people who want 22 spitfire , good luck making the brass and reloading it.

STANG;
"Hey John
If there is none in .50BMG left I'll take one in .30 carbine."

We will reserve one for you, it does come with a hammer so you can get the longer cartridge into the action.... We have not resolved the feeding issues as yet but we feel that once you touch off one round in that action there should not be a need for a second round.... ?

Enjoy your new .50bmg /M-1 Ultimate

John

I'll take an M1 Carbine in 30-30. Build it and I will come for one, maybe two! :)

How bout in 7.62x39

.223/.556 NATO would suit me!

I'd *love* one in 223

f:P:

I hope these are jokes, but for some reason I doubt it...

In order to have something workable with those cartridges, it would require a complete redesign, to the point where you'd basically get a Mini 14/30. How about this... When johnone makes an announcement that Norinco will actually be producing new M1 Carbines, then you try to convince him to get Norinco to completely redesign it for a different cartridge that the action won't be able to handle.

I've been thinking about it and I think I'd really like one in 5.56. No I don't want a mini14 in this sense for the next one who's thinking of suggesting it.

So you really want a .223 rifle based on a platform that was neither designed to handle the pressure of the .223 cartridge or the length of the cartridge, that will use proprietary magazines and have absolutely no aftermarket support aside from what Norinco will make?

.223 m1 carbine? See mini-14.

pistol caliber m1 carbine? See Ruger pc-9/pc-40

Ruger purposely used the m1 carbine as a base design concept when creating these. The mini-14 and Ruger pc-9 are exactly what you would get if you were to try to engineer a m1 carbine into any other caliber.

I thought this was blatantly obvious already?

But I guess like said...a little research......

Yes, it is obvious, but this is CGN...

Gaff; As Greenhorse before you noted, the brass is simply .30 carb brass necked to .22. The .22 spitfire was one of the original wildcats designed to "improve" on the performance of the M1 back in '63.

5.7x28mm would probably be an easier sell.

5.7x28 Overall Length: 40.50 mm

.30 Carbine Overall Length: 41.91 mm

The magazines would also be very easy to design, as the widest part of the 5.7x28's case has no taper.

The rebated rim would require a slight ejector redesign, though.

This is easily the most workable option.
