Norinco M14 accuracy

Still, the reason I have so much fun with these rifles is that they make me concentrate on my shooting style/ form and rifle tweaking skills more than any other firearm I own.
Rodney

Well put Rodney. Regardless of what rifle you are shooting and with what sighting system there is on it the fundamentals remain the same. If you really want to be a "rifleman" you shoot prone, kneeling, sitting and standing. You concentrate on your shots and make the groups as small as possible. I've never been interested in Golf, but if I did my goal would be to lower my own score. I'll never beat Tiger. It's not a realistic goal. But golfing par would be. It's a quest for personal improvement.

Whether you are rattling off shots from an M14, M96 Mauser or Remington 700 using factory ammo or hand loads the goal is to wring the best accuracy out of it possible and develop your skills. It's also a sport we can participate in for most of our lives. As much as I enjoy all of my firearms I do drag the M1A's out to the range the most. I just like them the best.

It's a Norinco, anything you do to it can only make it better. Ha ha ha ha

Okay! Is everyone having fun? That's all that matters. Many many good points made and lots of truth flying around especially that BR Keyboard. I particularly like shooting gongs FWIW. Instant success within the expected parameters of a battle rifle. Leave your expectations at that. Gongs are cheap and so is Norinco copper washed ammo. Have at 'ER. :)

If you don't like tinkering don't buy one. I'm actually serious here. Leave it for me to buy, I will tweak it because I am bored and I will turn around and sell it to great CGN folks like jonto and silverBB. Yeah the Norc sights suck, yeah the QC sucks, I agree the plastic stock may suck, yeah they may be out of index but look at all the collective fun you've had.

I never have that much fun with my Remmy sniper rigs. They are all routinely accurate and will never match the joy I have when I'm sitting cross legged and shooting at a gong 100 steps away. Some of you have yet to experience a CQB style clinic with your tweaked M14 like we did at Thomas' party in July 2012, interior BC. We made all of you yell,"Get off my lawn!"

You try doing that with your FClass BR rifle. It ain't as much fun. Your $400 poopy shztty QC high school built M14 Wannabe rifle is still way more fun when you shoot it yelling , "Geeks in the wire!"

Okay now put that them smartphones and get out and shoot. Just ease up on the yelling if you are around the Fudd Patrol. :)

I'm gonna leave you with a favorite quote of my wife: "You have so much potential!" And that's what she often reminds me. I agree there is much krap from the Norinco but look at how much you have learned along this journey and it's only gonna be more fun.

Cheers and keep helping the noobs.

You could probably spend $2000 on a Norico and still get 4" groups... It's a pig you can dress it up as nicely as you want but in the end it's still a pig...

I can make some real good bacon with my 305 Can hit the 8 inch gong at 200 yds, 9 of 10 shots. Has only the op-rod mod in it, oh yes reloading for it and finding the sweet round

Correct.

The only real advantage I can see for the Norc is that it allows you to get shooting on the cheap. You can slowly upgrade it and tweak it as finances permit; and that is important to younger shooters who have their hands full just making car and mortgage payments. A good M14 by Springfield or one of the other 'boutique' makers will set you back around $2000.00 and that is a lot of money to shell out in one big gulp. Count on spending more on Cadillac match guns.

As always, your finances will limit your options and if the Norc gets you shooting this iconic cult gun - smile and use it.

just fell back in love with my m305. Man, what a crazy relationship this is(kind of like this German chick I dated). Range time is just so precious; is it really a good idea to spend it on an outdated, expensive, go-nowhere rifle? I mean, where does this rifle even fit in?? Under 300m, 5.56 is king, over 300m get a bolt .308. Too heavy for close, not accurate enough for far.
Of course, after saying this, I'm just out the door for the range now, and my norc m305 and norc 1911 are the only guns I'm taking. Sheesh

Instead of just blasting, I'll take my time and see what kind of groups I can manage with my 2012, out-of-the-box m305. Best $400.00 bucks I ever spent, or a bad habit that just won't get out of my house!!

Maybe tonight's the night I finally figure out photobucket.

Its a battle rifle so its a jack of all trade, master of none.

In my experience, these rifles tend to shoot a lot better than many folks give them credit for.
I disagree that one can only expect a "good" rifle after spending big coin on upgrades... Matter of fact I find that to be hogwash.
I've tuned a pile of rifles for guys from this site. With no intentions of bragging, I'd put that number at well over 200 rifles (not including clinics). For the most part guys got the standard accurizing package at 365.00 which included TIG unitizing the gas system, trigger job, index correction, anchoring oprod guide and a general front to back inspection and corrections/tuning. It also included an NM oprod spring guide rod.
The vast majority of folks who got that package done were exceptionally pleased with the rifle they got back.
At the same time I have seen very very few of those rifles for sale in the EE over the years.
Point being, that small investment drastically improved their rifles, contrary to others' claims that it takes a couple grand in bling.

Edit** I'm am no longer rifle smithing so please don't ask ;)
