Norinco M14 help please Flash supressor crooked??

See image. Bought first Norinco M14 and it shot incredibly accurate/easy with open sights (3 inch group at 50 metres, and I didn't even have it dialed in 100%) so I bought a second one. . .and it looks as though the flash suppressor is crooked and the front sight is pushed drastically to one side :( . . .does this mean that the whole barrel assembly is off? Should I shoot it first this way to see how accurate it is? Is this an easy fix with a wrench? Newbie here and have no idea what the next step is. Was going to scope one of the M14's and possibly look at replacing parts, but don't want to do anything drastic yet as I've already broke the bank by buying 2 of these!

Ideas?
 
Most likely it's just the way the flash suppressor was made, they're pretty poorly made. Sometimes you get unlucky and receive one like that. Most likely that's all it is, and getting a new quality one will correct that.
 
Yup, buy a new flash hide as that one pouched. The fellow that made that rifle probably makes $5 a week and there really not know for there quality control. Either that or the barrel is way out of index and needs to be aligned. How do the feed ramps line up??
 
I figured as much. . .what are the chances it will shoot accurately and be able to be dialed in with the open sights? Also. . .the supressor is spot welded on eh? So removing it is a big deal? What does that cost at a gun smith? I am not too worried about the cosmetics of the gun, if it shoots like the other one I was hitting dinner plates beyond 200meters with open sights. . .crazy accurate for a cheap m14!

Perhaps this will be the one that receives the scope. . .(??)
 
In Abbotsford. . .so yes I am close to you Katana. What's involved in removing the flash supressor. . .do you work on these? Do you replace parts. Do you charge?

Starting to think this one isn't as nice as the first one I bought. . .the feed ramps might not be quite aligned (don't have enough experience to know). One thing that is a little concerning is that when I draw the bolt back it moves very stiff and takes a slight gouge out of the brass on the cartridge underneath it (??)

Guess it is my luck to not get one as good as the first. . .I was very impressed with the first. Perhaps I should take this one back? I don't think you can return them eh?
 
What's involved is knocking off the FH. I've done lots and never have had one brake but it does sometimes happen so be warned. The worst case is you need to get a new FH which are pretty cheap. As for the work, no I don't charge anything to help a brother with a M1A out but at the same time I really don't want to spend all my time in the garage working on Norks every weekend. Once that is done you are now able to shim the gas ports which will help with cycling of the action. I'm not able to help with the barrel indexing as I'm currently in the process of making a barrel vice and it's not done yet. I'm not free today but I could help ya out tmw if you had time.
 
Strangely enough many of the chinese flash suppressors are machined in a goofy and slanted manner. Often a new M14 owner will eyeball the sights and recognize that the rifle is out of index (front sight tilted to left is overtightened impression and front sight to the right may look like it needs tightening).l

In the past while offering to fix someone's indexing problem, I will BEAT off that chinese factor(I mean high school shop class) flash suppressor and then install a Springfield M1A unit. Then I will set up my parallel and clamps unit only to discover that ALL IS WELL and no re-indexing is required. It's an optical illusion with them Zhinese flash suppressors. :D

Now if it still need re-indexing, that's only a 4 or 5 minute job as OddShot will attest! :evil:

One other thing the bolt on this thing is VERY difficult to cycle and it gouges the brass on the ammo. Haven't fired it yet but it's so tight I am wondering if the thing will cycle when fired?! This one sure isn't as nice as the first one I bought.

Is this VERY stiff racking common? Once racked once it loosens up, but as soon as trigger is pulled it is VERY difficult to rack again.
 
Oh. . .to answer question above, it's a shorty. Both shorty's. Love these things. . .well. . .loved the first one. . .lol. . .worst case scenario is I swallow the $500 and have one good one to use:(
 
See, it's helpful people and posts like these that make me want to get into the m14 platform. Don't worry I check several times a day to make sure my d*ck hasn't fallen off yet. Plan on picking up a long barrel when Marstar or P&D (so I can look at them in person) gets some in.
 
I was able to handle the first one (bought the one off the shelf) but the second one was wrapped in plastic and literally covered in oil. Good luck trying to evaluate them in that condition.

did you read the stickies or watch the youtube vid's on the proper lubrication points?
did you check the index on the barrel?
is the op rod guide in line with the op rod?
 
Hi Odd Shot. It is well lubricated. . .I think that the barrel is in line with the feed paths and magazine, not really sure what's causing the VERY difficult rack, but I am thinking I might try take it back today and see what the store says--after all I did buy two there. This one just seems a lot worse made then the first. . .there are even a bunch of hammer marks in the steel framing where the magazine slides in. Not expecting perfection for $500, but I do expect something that cycles fairly smoothly and has a relatively straight flash suppressor.
 
When you come by this morning we'll take a look at it as see what's holding up the bolt. If it's not fixable maybe take it back to where you got it and see what they can do.
