Norinco M14 Help!

I have a Norinco M14 and I have an occasional stoppage issue. The weapon will misfire and it looks like the bolt face is not fully closed. The primer is struck but not hard enough to cause the ammuntion to fire. Any suggestions?

The light primer strike may well be from the inertia of the slide and firing pin, and not the hammer dropping. Is the hammer down when this occurs? Hope not.

I would take the spring out and see how smoothly the op rod moves the bolt open and closed. I'd remove the gas piston and examine it. I'd look to see if anything was loose in the gas system, or any moving parts binding.
 
Does it happen mid-mag? Like you fire a couple of rounds and then the next one...click?

The only thing that springs to mind is that something is slowing the op rod on its return trip...I agree, pull the op rod spring and tip the barreled action back and forth...is the op rod/bolt assembly sliding smoothly back and forth or is it maybe binding on something?

If it's just the first round in a mag you are probably riding the op rod down with your hand a little! I did that with my first m14 a few years ago...took me a while to stop being careful with it!
 
On my latest norinco, the op rod binds against the stock just as its closing. Hard to see, as its on the inner part of the wood. Really jams up the op rod tight in its groove. The gun got another stock so the problem is gone, but something I think you should check for.
 
:agree: with grizzleypeg..... and this is the FIRST thing i would look for when this issue presents itself. Time and time again I have seen guys scratchin thier heads over this issue... tearing apart, putting back together and ... still have a problem..... when it was a tiny bit too much wood at the forward end of the op rod relief channel in the stock causing oprod binding
 
Glad I found this thread - was just about to report that I started getting "click" and light primer strikes halfway through a magazine in my M305...will check as above.
