Norinco M14 Rebuild & Face Lift From The Ground Up... [Project Complete - 01/23/2012]

Hey 50calshooter , I noticed the same with my shorty and ulimak rail , the gap under the rail is wider at the front of the rifle as it looks like the front barrel mount dosnt sit flush .I have been hesitant to start grinding away material up till now .
I was happy to see your post saying you were going to address the problem.
When you do the mod to your Ultimak make sure you take pics and post the info on what you did and post the pics on here .

Thanks

Yeah will do, I'm just going to use some emery cloth and take it slow... I will post my outcome later tonight...

Did you require an export permit to buy all those parts from brownells? If so, how long did it take to get? Did Brownells help you through the paperwork?

Nope, I kept all my orders under or at $100, selected USPS priority mail, which added another $6 in shipping and they all arrive at my door in about 7-10 days.

Sure, I accumulated about 6 orders but hey at 6 bucks shipping it's no bother to me... On the arrival week everyday is like xmas with another box of goodies showing up either same day or the day after...

The only exception out of all those parts was the Ultimak rail, it was considered a mount and not a gun part so even though it was $200 they still shipped it to me with no problem.

I was looking at your parts list, and I though the national match gas assembly was over a 100. My bad. Good on you though. looking forward to seeing your finished rifle.

Mines at M14 doctor getting accurized. When I get it back, I want to refinish it just as you. Looks dam nice. Totally removes that cheap chinese look it, which is good because the norc recievers are better than the SA ones.

I buy from Brownells under my company so I get a discount on all parts, so if my orders go over $100 my discount will pick up the slack to make it shippable.

Looking good so far ... Barret does great work eh?! Do yourself a big favour and ditch the synthetic stock and get yourself some nice wood ... there are some out there or contact the guy from TreelineM14 site as he has some nice stocks he'll export to Canuckistan. Can't wait to see the finished product ... ;)

You crazy mang, lol

Seriously everything I own is black, I purposely bought this stock for this build. If you haven't seen one, the pictures do it no justice. It really is a good quality heavy duty fiberglass stock, nothing like the cheap plastic norc stock. I'm liking it and in keeping with the "black rifle" tone it's working for me.

More importantly, how did your barrel, bolt, receiver match up when you got the rifle? Namely, how did it shoot?

Everything else is either going to be cosmetic or a bandaide to a gushing artery.

I don't see how things like the gas cylinder is NM until you've done say a NM weld job. On the note of gas assembly, have you checked the gas lock threads and/or chased the threads on the barrel?

Haven't shot it yet, tore it down the day I got it.

The NM gas cylinder IS welded already it comes as one unitized assembly.

Oh ....and no I havent touched the threads.

Don't take my comment as a slight.

I'm just curious if you've done a baseline with the key remaining parts of the rifle. Namely, you have the receiver, bolt and barrel. You haven't shot it to determine the inherant accuracy potential of the rifle. You probably haven't checked headspace either. Is your barrel indexed correctly?

However, you've started to invest in part A, B, C, etc etc, which may or may not have a huge overall impact to further accurise the rifle.
