They also interfere with cycling of action. I used one - big mistake - and now I say avoid at all costs.

Nope, seriously, save your money! Just shoot 168 grain and lighter boolits and your are good to go! It's a solution for a problem that hardly exists(ed).

The ONLY time I ever had trouble with one of my M14 rifles was when I put that buffer in...

Like everyone else says, the buffer is junk.

Does anyone have experience with recoil buffers?

I ran one for the longest time and recently removed it after a stock change.
300 rds in and I really can`t tell a difference.
