Hi guys,
read the previous posts and hate to drag a topic but I'm looking at a Norinco M14 this Saturday and would like some more opinions. I just bought a 930 Mossberg and 597 VTR last week and the wife hasn't left so I want to strike while I can:cool:
Epps has some .308 M14 Norincos in stock and the price seems good and I have a few trades going so I'd like a low cost semi to add to the locker.
Any help? I know they're a knock-off but it's in my range (right now) and as a starter.....
thoughts?

Hungry here: WTF are you waiting for? Don't buy ONE! Buy TWO of them! Actually truth be told, another CGNutter brought one of those 2009 Norc M14's to my clinic in January (Barrie) and the flash hider was not welded on... Just slipped off nicely! Life is good! And the flash suppressor/hider had a bayonet lug...

Welcom to CGN, For rifle options you can do what I am doing, that is if you can wait a few months, Marstar is bringing in a new batch of m14's marketed as the M-305b and is taking pre-orders. I would assume the CQ will be higher then the 2009 batch, as that is the trend that Norinco is following. Also its a way better deal, you get the rifle, 2 mags (one short 5/5 and one long 5/20) sling, cleaning kit, and a hard case. the price listed is around $430,so not only are you saving $100, but are getting a pinned (to five) 20 round magazine and a hard case as well. Now thats IF you can wait until June when they get here... Only reason I have not caved and bought a 2009 model is the non ignorable low number in my bank account.

Hmmm Enfield Mk4 has me thinking:confused:
I can wait till June easily -is there going to be much different between the M14S and the 305B's. I am just beginning to get this itch :D and can wait if there's going to be some improvement to the product...

Well I said I could wait  but I think I'll head down to Epps in the AM and have a look at the M14's they have in stock.....I sent Marstar an Email last weekned and didn't get a response- does he close for the winter?????

A starter...

On the contrary, with proper tuning/upgrades, the norcs can shoot as well as a Springfield, and for about half the price.

Get the rifle, have it tuned (trigger job, gas system shimmed/unitized, etc.), check the headspace (replace bolt w/USGI bolt if necessary/desired :D), replace the stock norc sights, and you're good to go. :)

You can't go wrong with a Norc M14. There are two of them living in this house right now.

I would make a suggestion though. The ammo for the M14 will be fairly expensive. As a new shooter you may want to consider a .22 and an SKS (7.62 x 39). Both of these types of firearms are inexpensive and ammo is fairly cheap and plentiful. You could buy a .22 and an SKS for the price of the Norc M14.

Of course I subscribe to the Hungry school of thought and believe that my #### will fall off if I don't have atleast one or even two M14s in the house at all times.

Petrock,
I have 597VTR so the .22 is covered  and dump a few boxes at the range every week. I really always wanted an M14. I guess we'll see how the days travel goes tomorrow. Always enjoy a visit the 'toy store'

save and wait for the ones John is bring in you can't go wrong and you can save for some ammo in the mean time or get into reloading now and by the time they arrive you could have made a decent supply of ammo to shoot.

Well if anyone had taken your bet you'd be $10 richer :dancingbanana:
I had an old .58 black powder I brought in and they offered great money for it so I did come home with an M14S.
Now to light up a cigar and strip it on the porch and get her ready for tomorrows christening at the range
