Norinco M14s Scout Scope - what's the consensus?

It's a Leupold FXII 2.5x28 IER scout scope (product number 58810 in their catalogue), just like what's on my rifle with the exception he's using the low leupold rings (I'm using mediums) and his scope sports the factory adjustment turrets/covers (I had mine replaced with their externally adjustable Custom Dial System so I could dial elevation changes all the way out to 500 yards). Rail looks to be an ultimak.

Tank's post reminded me that I should post an update in this thread!

I purchased the Leupold scope Brobee mentioned, last Saturday at P+D. Had it out at the range less than an hour later, and love it. LOVE IT.

So I highly recommend it to those looking for a good forward-mount optic that's low mag with a good FOV.

I have this Leupold scout scope on my M-1 Tanker copy in 308.
It came with a Burris scout scope, that promptly loosened it's reticle within 100 rounds!
The factory repair was turned around and back in my paws, within three weeks from Greely, Colorado.
That nagging feeling never left me though, until I purchased the sturdy, and so far problem free, Leupold FXII 2.5 X 28, EER scout scope.
About 400 rounds and counting. A while back a good friend of mine, used this set-up to easily bang the 300 yard gong, several times from the eight shot clip.
 
Any opinions on the Fulton Armory super scout?

I didn't do any research to see if they could be exported...

I like it a lot - very solid the way I have it mounted.

Take some time and make sure you have the two barrel bands positioned properly - they are NOT interchangeable, and with the barrel taper it's important to put the back one back and forward one forward... torque everything evenly and you won't get a canted rail... then you're set!

Yup.

And in that case, just get a mount that's purpose-built to cover the receiver.

The whole premise for me using a scout mount was to preserve the stripper clip functionality of the gun. If you don't want to do that, the world is your oyster when it comes to mounts.

The ability to feed by stripper clip is a real drawback to the over the receiver scope mounts in my opinion. Slamming 5 rounds down the stripper clip is much faster than a mag change, and is a very compact way to carry extra fast loads compared to a standard mag.

This is my viewpoint too - since we can't have 20-rounders legally in this country, I'm all about being able to carry a bandolier of 60 rounds on 12 strippers instead of carrying 12 mags with 5 each. Some might say "why the hell would you need 60 rounds" - to them I say "why the hell wouldn't you want 60 rounds?" :D

I mean, if a guy goes for a deer shoot you'll want to take a good bit of ammo (just in case); if a guy goes coyote shooting, you'll want more... if you go gopher shooting with the M14 then you'll want a ton!

I went with the SA mount. I wanted my rifle to still look classic with the handguard. It also looks way less tactical when it's hunting season. AND I have a feeling that everyone assumes that the scout mount scope set up is limited to short ranges. Is it just me? Anyway, my pic.
