Norinco M305 horribly innacurate... Basic low budget accurizing? Suggestions?

If your flash hider is readily removable some times just flipping the gas cylinder lock works to tighten your gas assembly without shims. If you need shims, they are usually available at Marstar.

The absolute least expensive way to improve your reasonably good accuracy is to use better ammo. Then look at the bedding, do a trigger job, then all the other stuff.
The 10" groups are likely being caused by the bedding. The rifle is moving in the stock.

Yup, agree.
A fine tuned load to my lady resulted in roughly a 50% increase.
That was before the stupidly priced high end chassis, which resulted in maybe an additional 15%. (still love it)

As stated above, best bang for the buck, hand loaded match ammo + trigger time (which will be a very expensive road)
Good luck and enjoy

Sub moa M14 is like the Bionic Man...

We can rebuild it but it will cost a million dollars.

The one my gunsmith built had very few of the original components left by the time he was done. Bull barrel and a lot more went into that project. I've never seen it, but I wouldn't take him for a liar. He quoted the example to deter me from going that route, not as advertising to dump money into his pockets.

Remember that it's a Norc, you can only improve things from here.

The norc's goofy quality allows us almost unlimited tweaking and wrenching. The good part about this journey of tweaking is that you learn by experience on your way to being captain of your ship and master of your soul. That line was shamelessly taken from Invictus.

If you don't want to get your hands dirty or fingers smashed from breaking the welds on the flash suppressor, then buy a predictable Springfield or LRB and have someone build it up for ya!

How's that saying go? Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer chances. :)

Ha ha ha ha. It's all good learning on the M14 discovery!

Cheers, Barney

That's what I say about most Springfield M1As.

H2O it's great to have a little American Battle Rifle common sense injected into these forums from you and others to put some reality into the M-14 community here.

You can see the polarization that takes place here between Springfield and Norc owners and I'm sure it makes you chuckle a little bit at times.:D

Guys go and do one of tactical teachers seminars. At the end of the day the M14 /M305 is a battle rifle , it wasn't designed to be a tack driver so if you can get it to be reasonable accurate with a few tweaks then great.
It is a learning process with the gun you can pay top dollar for a springfield and it still might not be a tack driver but at least with a nornc playing with it doing the tweaks you wont wreck a expensive bit of kit.

So I finally had a look at my rifle, cleaned it up and installed a Boyd's wood stock. I discovered the front sight had come loose and was sliding around at least 1/8 inch on the dovetail. That explains the close vertical spread with a ridiculously wide horizontal spread. Thanks to all those who suggested simple fixes! I'm looking forward to trying it out again. Maybe down the road I'd consider an enhanced guide rod and other improvements, but for will just experiment with different ammo.

thanks, I remember there was a thread about Boyd not shipping order over $100. I will give it a try :)
I thought that too, but it states on the site that this does not apply to canada
From their site
- Rifle orders with a product value over $100.00 CANNOT be exported (excluding Canada). There is no value limit on Shotgun stocks & Forends.
I love mine
