I ordered one of the m305 deals form canammo, it hasnt come yet but i will be useing the rifle for hunting. That being said, I will be using 308win ammo and from what i'v been reading the bolt and maybe barrel will need to be changed to usgi stuff. I'v been looking for these parts and it seems like there only availible in the states and they wont ship to canada. Can anyone help, does the bolt and barrel have to be change to fire 308win ammo? Does anyone know where to get these us gi parts?

you've been reading that stuff on the net- stuff that was PUBLISHED IN 1994 and a BIASED opinion to boot- well, the americans haven't had a chinese m14 since 1994 and the guy was SELLING HIS OWN brand of m14-

No need to change anything, the M305 works just fine as a hunting rifle (albeit it's heavier than most hunting rifles).

I used mine 2 years ago to take a couple of deer.

Sweet, I wasnt sure if norinco fixed all the quality control issues i'v been reading about, they all are old posts, just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the info, great news, its a sweet deal $677.00 tax in with 520rounds. I would have expected to spend some money on making it a reliable shooter.

A steady diet of 180 gr bullets might (I say MIGHT) be too much for the operating rod. Shooting a few 180 grain bullets shouldn't have too much of an effect.

I use 165 gr handloaded bullets (Hornady Interlocks) in my M305 and have had zero issues.

there's NO question about it- all you have to do is look up the performance and failure figures ( us army marksmanship team ) for the 180 matches and you will see 'ACCELERATED WEAR " on trigger group and op-rod- i don't have the ref tables right at my fingertips, but believe me , it was enough to make me start using 2 loads for my 308s, one for the "civilain" models and one for the m14 format- but shooting the ODD box should have litte or no effect- remember, these guys travel with a COMPLETE armourer and van( yes, it's the big blue panel job with the step side)

Or you can swap out your gas system for a USGI one and run a grooved piston if you wanna feed it a solid diet of 180gr. Another thing to check is your headspace to make sure it's within the parameters that 308 Win is supposed to be run in. Most seem to check out fine but it's always good to double check

is it still a good idea to replace the sping guide with a national match spring guide and opp spring are its not necessary, if so who sells them? Thanks for all the great advise.

Highly recommend changing the spring guide: the one part of a Norc that really and truly needs changed in my opinion. If you plan on hunting with the iron sights it is wise to go with a USGI or Garand rear set-up.

It's not ABSOLUTELY necessary. There is no "problem" with the stock ones. BUT...it's one of the very cheapest/easiest accuracy improvements you can do to this rifle, so most of us spend the $40 and do it!

As others said, the iron sights seem to be a weak spot for SOME of these Chinese M-14's: some work fine for years, others will wear out really fast and are slightly out of spec. Don't worry, that's about the only part on the rifle that's like that. I wanted a cleaner crisper sight picture, and bought Springfield NM irons for it, fit just fine on my Norc/Poly (I think mine's a Poly?). The rest of the guns are built solid, good steel.

Beware the heavy bullets issue, pay attention, because that will put significant stress on the rifle unless you adapt the rifle for the heavier ammo.
