Hey, I was wondering if anyone had put a match barrel on their Norinco? If so, what the results were like? As I understand, a norinco is anywhere between a 2 & 4 moa rifle at 100 yards. If a barrel swap brought it under 1 moa at 100 yards, I'd probably buy one.

There is very very very very very (get the point yet?) M14 platform guns shooting under the 1 MOA bar. And it takes a hell of a lot more than a match grade barrel.

They are accurate rifles. They are not precision rifles.

That's all we did. Swap out the Norc factory barrel and you will really be surprised at the groups possible using match booolits and a Krieger or Douglas or Hart barrel. Send me a PM if you want your barrel swapped out but for the time being start working that dumbass receiver ring set screw on the right hand of the receiver.

Cheers and keep helping da noobs.

Which krieger contour? They're 10 twist so how far are you seating them out? I guess, how far will the mag allow? I run 210's in my bolt and I'm pretty happy with them.

You won't be running 210's in your M14. Way too heavy. Most guys are shooting 147-168. Someone else can jump in here, but I think max is 175-180. Any heavier and it's going to do some bad ju-ju to your rifle's parts. Unless you turn off the gas system to turn it into a bolt action...and then you might as well be better off just shooting an actual bolt action. As for contour, GI profile or Medium is your best course of action. No need to go heavy barrel unless you plan on shooting at Camp Perry someday. Unless that's your cup of tea. And for that you need a Yankee receiver anyway...no Norinco Plinko allowed in.

Actually, while its true that the heavier bullets will cause M-14's and M1's to slowly beat themselves to death...I noticed that Brownells has an adjustable gas system...that can be tuned to vent excessive pressure when shooting heavier bullets! So if you spend a few more bucks, you 'apparently' can use heavier all day long without excessive wear or stress.

I believe this was done for long range competitions, heavier bullets for tighter groups at distance, but I think it would also be beneficial to hunters wanting to use heavier bullets for better terminal ballistics.

Now all that said, I've no experience with the product, or know if it has downsides or quality or not.

Thanks guys! It would be great if someone could show some pics of groups they shot with a krieger re-barrel. I'd shoot 168's or 175's, maybe the 185's but that's about as heavy as I would go. I just ask about the heavy barrel because if I shoot long strings, I'd rather not worry about my barrel heating up and walking on me. I was looking at a springfield match m14 today and it was very nice for $3,000. I'd rather spend under $1,000 on a re-barrel and rifle and have it shoot just as good as the springfield match. One thing I did notice is that the springfield bolt felt smoother, not sure if that would equate to better accuracy or reliability though.

While I don't have piles of pics to satisfy your questions.... I've installed a whole ot of match grade barrels to norcs, springers, LRB's ect and the results have all been exceptional, with most shooting far better than the guy squeezing the trigger.
My personal favorite is the 18.5" medium profile. The "compromise" between a dedicated match rifle (heavy barrel) and a rifle I can use for both field and bench.
Average cost including install is generally 600 to 800 all in, depending on the barrel and if yer paying to have it installed or... If yer buying the tools to do it yerself.
