Norinco M305 muzzlebrake

First thing first..... nomenclature matters..... everybody knows what the “standard” length is 22” (or thereabouts). The 18.5” with the standard Flash Hider is nicknamed the “shortie” and the 18.5” model with the reversible muzzle brake looking device is nicknamed the “Socom”. It clears up a lot of confusion when you can make your query known with no ambiguity right off the “git-go”.

If you want the “look” of the OEM MB, then purple lock-tite May be the answer for your issue, or just torque it on tight.... If the brake is installed forward (open end out) it ain’t doing a blessed thing anyway, ya might as well have it installed the other way (open end in) so it has that “tacti-cool” super short look....

I believe the Socom has a different thread than the “standard M-305/Chi-com” castle nut thread pattern of M15x.75; But... I’ll be honest here, I’ve never measured the thread pitch on the so-called “Socom” pattern Chinese rifles.

From the few I’ve seen, I believe the thread is .75, but I’ve never measured the OD of the threads. On a standard Chi-com bbl the OD of the barrel is 14.48mm to 15.1mm, so it’s conceivable that it is the same thread.

One thing to try is a Chinese thread “direct connect” muzzle break. As a previous poster mentioned, Black Rose Tactical makes one. Nordic Marksman (a site sponsor) also stocks SEI parts and bits and has several American made parts that are threaded for Chinese rifles.

For the guys looking to replace the "standard" type flash hiders (ie have 3 splines and use a castle nut) on Norc M14s, any of the US one will fit (SEI, SAI, etc) you just re-use the chicom castle nut. I have a SAI one on mine, works like charm. I'd kinda like to get the SEI adapter that lets you keep your front site on but has threads for standard 7.62 muzzle devices (5/8x24) so I could use a more modern design of brake like I do on my bolt guns.

The SEI adapter is what I run on my krieger barrel, with one of my own muzzlebrakes. I love it. OP, as notsorich has stated, wording matters as to us suggesting what you may need. I’ll go ahead and assume your rifle is the “SOCOM” model, because you say you’d like to keep the front sight as is. Which leads me to believe your front sight is mounted to the gas lock. In this case, you need to know the exact thread size so you can start looking for a brake. Sad to say, but the options are actually more plentiful with the standard mounting solution, which is a muzzle device/front sight unit locked into place with a castle nit. A direct connect brake for a norinco SOCOM will likely be a custom job. Or maybe the Black Rose unit??

Very happy with a SEI 'Good Iron' M14 US Coast Guard / Navy Muzzle Brake + Springfield Armory 'Scout' tall front sight (Brownells)
The break really does work, and the front sight is immaculate and doesn't snag on things like gun socks etc.

Happy shopping!
