Norinco m305 or m14

I just noticed my norinco has m-14 stamped into the receiver and not m305. Is this common? It is full length model.

What markings appear on the receiver of an M305 / M14S and where they appear depend on when it was imported and by whom.

fairly common, my norcs have m14s on them, buddies ooooold polytech has m305 on it.

Regardless of your stamp don't put anything bigger than 168gr and mild loads in your M14.

Mine chewed up Winchester 180gr brass for breakfast. Tore em in half! Nato spec stuff shoots flawless.

Some have headspaces issue, maybe 168 is too conservative but I feel the action work harder when shooting 168gr so personally I wouldn't push it farther.

Regardless of your stamp don't put anything bigger than 168gr and mild loads in your M14.

The rifle is designed for a maximum 174gr bullet, 168's are no problem, all day long.
180's can be used with a GI or springfield gas system and a Sadlak NM grooved piston... Again, all day long.

174 then it is. I stand corrected. I know about the piston, it had a cut channel near the gas port.
