Norinco M305 question

I’m a new owner of a Norinco M305, Socom 18 to be exact and I had a question.

After unboxing and while I was removing the cosmoline I noticed my bolt was BLACK with carbon. Is this normal?? I plan to give it a good scrubbing and oiling but I wouldn’t have expected so much dirt on a ‘new’ rifle.

They test fired it at the factory.
Is it blued or parkerized??

Check the bolt for dimples on the underside, make sure it's not one of the MIM affairs being sold these days.

I am not sure if he really has a Dominion Arms Socom 18 since these where last bought in 2013 by Canada Ammo. I believe Marstar was selling a rifle that looked the same as the Socom 18, however I thought the MIM boults where only found on the 7.62-39 m305A rifles and not the 7.62x51 M305B

I am not sure if he really has a Dominion Arms Socom 18 since these where last bought in 2013 by Canada Ammo. I believe Marstar was selling a rifle that looked the same as the Socom 18, however I thought the MIM boults where only found on the 7.62-39 m305A rifles and not the 7.62x51 M305B

The cast receivers were found in the x39s. The MIM bolts in x51 (or both).

I suppose it’s possible I mistook the parkerized finish for a coating of carbon? If so, thanks for setting me straight.

If the bolt is black, and not grey like the rest of the rifle, there is a good chance it's MIM.

I've never heard of this MIM issue until today. I'll have to check for the circles next field strip/cleaning and perhaps start looking to source a bolt. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm curious to know which retailers have forged bolts vs. MIM bolts...

Spread the word. I believe the importers have caught wind of the issue some time ago. Maybe when they start backing up on the shelves they will actually do something about it. Because attempting to contact them has proven to be useless.

The retailers know exactly what they have and that they are not safe, though none will admit that. Ppl keep buying them regardless. The issue is actually with North sylva, the importer. The importer is unlikely to act until someone puts their proverbial eye out and sues.
