Yep. They need a good cleaning before use.

Do you consider Cosmolene to be grease?

If so, then yes. If not, then no.

It's an oil based shipping/preservative but not sure if it is officially "grease" or not.

It's a mess but not to hard to clean with a can of brake cleaner.

Cosmoline is grease. It's actually thick petroleum jelly.

Just a note i was in epps today saw 2 Norc M14s both had scope mounts and one had a usgi stock witha arms mount fro only $465.00 what a deal

Some are worse than others, mine was probably one of the worser ones I had this oil crap oozing out of everything, I took off the rear sight and a huge liquid glob of it came out lol. It kinda stinks as well

Brake cleaner works so well for this
